Default Recommendations for buying offer

Hello Everyone,

First post to this site and looking for some advice. I am interested in purchasing a new 2018 1LT Base. My local dealer, which happens to be in the top 15 nationally in corvette sales, has one with a manual transmission and performance exhaust as the only option. MSRP is $57,685 and they are discounting it to $51,685. I was thinking of offering them 20% off MSRP. Does that sound unreasonable? What do you think would be a good discount on this left over? Thanks

You can offer whatever you want and they can laugh at you, no pain, no foul. Or, you can look at the truly big dealers' Websites, such as Kerbeck's, and you'll see what can be done. All the best!

^^^^ I agree.

Check out the big 3 online supporters here: Kerbeck, MacMulkin, and Mike Furman @ Criswell.

Otherwise, I would say stick to your 20% off on what you found locally...... however, you will waste a lot of time doing so.

Thanks for the replies. I checked out the top three and there is only two 2018 Corvettes left. Both Z06 at 15% off. So this gives me a price range to shoot for. Won't be the first time a dealer laughed at my offer. If not it looks like I can get a 2019 for 10% to 12% off.

Check all the forum dealers' offers on Corvette Forum if you're already going to go from Florida to wherever to pick up a car. I did this before buying mine in spring 2017 and found a lot of variation from month to month, and dealer to dealer,

I would check to see how long the C7 has been sitting on the dealer's lot as that can be an indicator as to how willing they will be to deal, being a manual it may have been there a while.
$51,685 is just a little over 10%, which is low. You might offer 20% off MSRP however they probably won't accept it. I would pass if you couldn't get 15%>18% off. Good luck!

BTW, I bought my C7 from Dennis Tap at Les Stanford Chevy in Dearborn, Michigan. They currently have employee pricing on most C7s, a 2019 that lists at $56,690 is $51.028. Check the C7 Dealer Inventory forum on this site.

Agree with the 15-18% off on a leftover 18' LT1 base. Not sure how dealers are in FL but I have been shopping in MN/WI and you can get leftovers (specifically base models) at a better discount than the "big dealers" offers. The only reason I did not pull the trigger on one is I had a specific model in mind and decided to wait for it. Very happy I did as it popped up last week so I snagged it. You can always go in with a 20% offer and then settle for something in that 15-18% range. Right now it seems there is a pretty good inventory of leftover base models for sale with 19's already on the lots. You just cannot be too picky if you want the best deal. I think you are on the right track as an 18' is already a one year old car.

1LTs, are not a desirable trim level - unless you're really short of financing. I'd not buy less than a 2LT trim level. That said, -20% off MSRP.

Good luck. If it is the car you want, get at least 15% off the MSRP.

Good Morning,

We have a base Black/Black 2018 Coupe 1-LT still in stock Car is a manual transmission car. We would accept you 20% off MSRP on that car if you are interested. Please contact me.

LOL..that’d be less than 10% off, probably closer to 8%. Might’ve been a valid technique 20 years ago when “invoice” meant something.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on this. Many of us feel that the 1LT trim is everything that we need/want without opting for other things we may not need.

I recommend buying it from your local dealer. There are all sorts of extra charges such as shipping, travel, or Courtesy dealer fees for the PDI that will in many cases end up making it more expensive than the price you are being offered by your local dealer. Plus the big advantage with local is you get to thoroughly check the car over before you pay for it. Take it from me as I have experience buying a 2018 1LT with NPP from a forum dealer and I will never do it again as it is not to my financial advantage. I have also observed that getting a good deal is much more dependent on the time of the year of the purchase rather than purchasing from an Internet dealer or local decison. GM incentives are where the big savings usually are and the rest is in the noise.

Thanks for all the replies and advice.

I went there today and made my offer. They responded with $51,000 is the best they could do. I replied good luck with that considering the car has been sitting over a year. When I saw the color in person I didn't really like it anyway so I didn't push harder on the price. I am going to look at 2019s and get exactly what I want.

Great plan and always best to stick with what you are most comfortable with. Hopefully you find the car for you soon.

Below is a good article, and it may help explain why a dealer that sold 49 corvettes from Jan-June 2018 cannot offer you the same lowest price as the dealer that sold 503 corvettes in the same period. It's not a level playing field, and just like Wal-Mart ate every local mom & pop retailers lunch and grows bigger, the mega Vette dealer can go as low as you want to pay, and the local dealer will just wave good-bye as you walk away.

Car Buying myths that refuse to die.

Don't be afraid of setting foot outside of Florida to purchase. Dealers in Detroit and St. Louis have processed my Vette purchasing papers with the Florida DMV; even transferring plates to save me couple hundred bucks. And both out of state dealers did it without charging me the exorbitant "Dealer Fees" that Florida dealers are so fond of racking up on the sales invoice. I've also bought new Toyota's and Mercedes out of state, and had zero problems getting all three makes serviced at Fort Lauderdale dealerships. I've never had to stand in line at a Florida DMV, or worse, those satellite for-profit DMV juniors for a new car purchase out of state; but did experience the nightmare of doing so once for a used Porsche I bought out of state.

My wife and I enjoy the car buying trips, (mini-vacations) Big Rent a car places bow down and bless you when you request to drive a car one-way OUT of Florida. Their lots are full of tourista's rides having done the Florida destination one-way. We've never had a bad experience with an out of state dealer, 7 purchases and counting. But I was treated like an imbecile at a local dealership in Kendall in 2017; it's just hard to strike a deal with the amount of dollars showing up in suitcases from out of town and country buyers. Good luck on your buying experience!
