I certainly am aware of many Corvette owners that break speed limits as a matter of their routine driving. However, since all States did away with the Federally mandated 55 mph highway speed limit many decades ago, I've not used any radar detection device/s. Too risky, for any number of reasons to drive in excess of the posted speed limits.

Long time Beltronics RX65PRO user. Been using one since 2006. How many tickets since then? ZERO. The unit is quiet, very low falsing, great range, great price too. People have always suggested Valentine to me, but I simply don't see the need for the high priced arrows. It's simple, if the detector goes off, I slow down until its no longer going off. It's like a seat belt, I now feel naked without one.

I asked this question a few months ago and received many similar responses but one caught me off guard. One of the tech guys on the forum stated that radar detectors are worthless for now due to the sensors in many cars that cause false alarms. I never validated this.

This is simply not true on a few levels.

Cops still use radar (much more than LIDAR). Low lying fruit is much easier to pick off than the stuff up high. Meaning that the population that speeds is high, the population that has a RD is low, so it's much easier to nab a speeder with radar, vs the more difficult setup for LIDAR.

So if you have a RD, then your chances of spotting a cop looking for "you" are higher than if you don't have a RD. So it's not useless, even if your RD has little to no filter to eliminate false positives. Experience will show how different most cops and most cars present.

The newer RDs have much more filtering capability than even a few years ago, so the anti-cop (as it were) tech is still gaining ground against those looking for you, the speeder.

All this being said ( and I didn't even but brush the surface), a RD is still only one tool in the box to keep revenue collectors at bay.

If your reason to speed "around here," is that you'll get run over because you're not driving 10 mph over the speed limits, you're already in serious ability to reason trouble.

It doesn't matter what the speed limit is, if you are doing over or under the traffic around you, YOU ARE THE DANGEROUS ONE! If traffic is moving too fast for you to drive safely, get off the road. Or at least move over so the people stacked up behind you can move on.

On the highway, speed isn't dangerous in and of itself, difference in speed is.

I'm a radar detector and laser jammer nut. I have spent way too much money and time on them over the years. I have tried several models of the radar detectors and the Uniden R3 is at the top of the heap right now. Not by much, but significantly enough to make a difference. Laser detection built-in to the radar detectors is worthless. When the buzzer goes off it is just letting you know you will be pulled over shortly and will be given a citation. I use a jammer by Antilaser Priority for laser shots. It works, but it has to be installed properly with 3 front sensors. And it has to be tested with a laser gun to ensure that it is working properly. Expensive, but effective and fun to use.
On the radar end of things. Some LEOs turn them on when they suspect someone is going fast and there is no chance to slow down and not get a citation. The main thing here is never, and I repeat, never be a rabbit.
I could go on and on about this subject but I won't.

Two things, first, the ALP equipment is serious stuff. You must be doing things almost no one else is.
Second, I play the rabbit role all the time. My screen name on waze is even Rabbit_Man.

The best filter for false alerts is the operator and a mute button.

I was into radar detectors for a while back in early 2000s and used a Passport Escort x50 for years until most of the local PDs switched to laser. Now I just don't speed in unfamiliar places since you should know the popular hiding spots on your normal commute and not need a detector. Radar detectors don't do crap for laser - by the time they alert you, you're caught. A jammer/scrambler is the only defense for laser, but if you get caught with one they WONT be happy...

Also starts to get annoying with so many cars starting using radar for things like auto cruise control and auto braking which causes false alarms on the highway.
