Have the original Escort Max that I bought just before my 2014 C7 arrived in October 2013. Have it now on my Grand Sport. The key feature I find very useful is the ability to mark the potential "radar trap locations." Nice to hear that young lady say "Your Marked Radar Trap" before I get there! Since I mostly drive locally I have marked locations where I have seen them as well as all school zone's where even when school is out and no traffic they sometimes park behind trees! Have seen motorcycle cops standing behind a tree in a school zone pointing his radar gun! If traveling in a "big city" the warning of red light cameras is also useful. Have not had a traffic ticket in Vettes in ~15 years.

Frankly on the Interstate not much help as they use instant on, However I can pick them up some distance away when they key on another vehicles. They will pull the trigger on me when I'm in the lead of a pack. But I don't often travel the interstate with the Vette because of 18 wheeler tire treads in the road and too many distracted drivers going way too fast and cutting in and out of traffic. When I do, I set cruise control at ~7 over the limit! It's also much more fun to drive on the back rural roads the 17 miles into town!

Seldom see them on the long roads between farm fields where I do hit redline in 3rd periodically. No homes, and the cotton and corn don't care about my speed.

Use a Blendmount wire from the mirror but prefer using the supplied 'Sticky Mount" to the right of the mirror. No vision obstruction.

FALSE. LIDAR has the disadvantage of having to be stationary for it to be useful (theoretically it can be used in motion, but real world things prevent this).

Most places use Ka Band as the primary for of detection. In some states like Ohio, many places still use K Band, and smaller towns even use X Band.

Detectors don't give you unlimited ability, they just allow you to run 5-10 over and get to the speed limit in time. Situation awareness, and generally not going crazy with your speed still apply even with a detector.

LIDAR can in some instances be caught by a lucky bounce. More importantly LIDAR is a "line of sight" device, meaning if you can't see them, they can't see YOU.

The R3 like many of the newer detectors eliminates the false positives from other cars, as the signals are very predictable in shape and are in certain frequency ranges.

Depends on flow of traffic and is the posted speed correct.

We have a freeway here which is 55 MPH because the on-ramps are very short and the service drives are 30 MPH. So in the right lane 55 MPH is probably correct. But going 70 MPH in the other two lanes is fine. But unfortunately we don't do lane speed limits like Germany and some other countries do.

Further, going 80-85 MPH on most if not all 70 MPH freeways is fine, they are in fact designed for you to drive that fast if not faster. This is how speed limits when the 55 MPH was overturned were raised so quickly. Michigan just too a bunch of freeways and raised them to 75 MPH up north, and they even raise regular TWO LANE roads to 65 MPH! These roads did not change since they were 70 MPH and 55 MPH, and the drivers actually aren't driving them faster, it's just legal now.

Speed limit is mostly arbitrary and has nothing to do with safety of cars. Rather it is safety of pedestrians or other users close to roads (this is why in a down town it's 25 MPH usually and not 35 MPH).

I see Ka-band more than anything else used by local cops and Texas state troopers. Occasionally I'll get a legit K-band, but most the time those are false alerts. I've been getting some false Ka alerts from newer Honda SUV's lately too.

Hmm, If you get caught by an unmarked car behind you, you deserve a ticket! In ~60 years of driving have never had an accident with another car (looking for wood as luck was certainly a part of that record!) A major reason is you must know what cars are around you at all times. That means a subconscious viewing continually of all mirrors. In my C7 coupes that has also meant a blind spot mirror on the drivers side (but that is another story!) If a car is coming up from behind fast, it could be a cop!

Even had to block the silly OnStar lights in the center mirror as my subconscious was occasionally thinking those lights could be a cop,



Simple solution is black electrical tape and a hole punch! Put on my 2014 C7 and first minor "mod" on my Grand Sport!

It is a thin fishing leader!

Only issue with the ESCORT "Sticky Mount" is if I park facing the sun on a hot day it can let lose! Did the other day! That stainless fishing leader is attached to the mount and a very small eye hook in the upper window molding. Stops the detector from hitting the dash or pulling out the Bleadmount wires from the mirror. used it in my 2017 and now my Grand Sport.

Yes. It has a lot of good features to go along with the best Ka detection. It's only marginally better at Ka detection than any of the others, but any edge you can get is worth it. Have a look at this video for all its features:

Look into the offerings from Radenso as well. I have three Radenso XP detectors that I am very happy with.

In my corvette I have a 5 head ALP system with GPS and a Net radar DSP. Works very well for lidar and has saved me a few times and well enough for radar detection. I want to upgrade to the Radenso RC M at some point.

I just flow with traffic, don't street race or do anything stupid, and I understand I'm driving an LEO magnet. I don't give them any reason to even pay me a second glance. Do I ever exceed the speed limit? Sure, I do, but I'm never blatant about it, no burnouts, no 150mph runs at night, etc. and if I want to race I take it to the track.

I own both the Uniden R3 and the Escort Max360c.

I much prefer the Escort in town but if I am going to be on the highway the R3 is the better choice. After 3 alerts in the same place, the Escort "learns" the fixed radar signals around town and mutes them. Over time I can almost drive through out my city in silence unless there is an active patrol car. The R3 can be "marked" for the fixed places but still gives an announcement and a beep or two. I get tired of listening to it for every store door I have marked and drive by. The R3 does have slightly better range and is less expensive which are plusses on its' ledger. I do not speed excessively so if I could only have one detector for my use it would be the Escort. FWIW, I have my Escort linked to my home WIFI and it regularly gets updates on the speed camera database and once in a while an upgrade on the operating system.
