Default Manual trans shift denial

Curious problem - I've noticed recently that if I put the vehicle into second gear, the stick will sometimes slip out of second and into neutral. I quickly put it into first or third and recover, but it scares the hell out of me. The prior owner installed the CAGS skip shift eliminator, though I have a general feeling that isn't the problem. 14 C7 Z51 30k miles w/ MGW shifter.

I am planning to do a clutch fluid change this weekend as it is pretty dark and a little low. Will see if that does anything, anyone experience anything similar?

Nope my MGW Z51 doesn't do that. I'd check the simple stuff first. Check the alignment of the shifter assembly. (refer to the MGW install videos on their website..) It's possible something slipped and it isn't operating correctly...

Had a similar problem in a different car with a Steeda Tri-Ax shifter. I had to adjust the stops in the shifter (a couple of bolts) to make sure the shift lever could travel far enough to fully engage a gear. Simple to do...just pull off the **** and the boot to expose the bolts/stops.

Dunno if an MGW shifter is the same, but I suspect it is.

I would check the alignment of your shifter. It's an easy process with the stock shifter, but I do not have any experience working with the MGW.

*EDIT*
Found a video for you, very simple! It appears they include an alignment tool with the shifter, but since it was already installed when you bought the car you may need to source one from a fellow member to borrow, or buy one from MGW.

I agree that the shifter is not just slipping out of gear. More likely you are nit getting shifter full into gear due to some mid alignment. Do you have any problems with gears in the same direction? 2, 4, 6

I suspect you're early shifting.... think you're in gear, just "shy" of it and release clutch and it pop out.... if I get to "sloppy" shifting mine does that to me, but after more than 60 years shifting gears I recognize the problem is me.....

Resurrecting an old thread just to say that I fixed the problem with shift denial.

I ordered the alignment tool for the MGW shifter thinking that was the issue. When I got into the center console, it looks like the previous owner put a second rubber cover around the shifter. So as I was going into second gear, the shifter was pressing against the rubber cover. I cut out a large piece of that cover and put it back on (as I assume it serves some purpose) and now the shifter is a whole different animal. Smooth, notchy, zero effort, and it hasn't slipped out of second once. Pic below:

This is just a picture of the alignment tool before shifter installation:
