Default C7 Nurburgring times, they're all here!

Last weekend, the same friend who sent me Jim Mero's retirement announcement sent me a Facebook post from Jim's wife, Terri. The post was photos of the gifts Jim received for his retirement. One of the gifts was a large photograph composed of a lot of smaller photos. At the bottom of the large photo was 7 smaller photos of what seems to be all of Jim's Nurburgring times. I believe this because included in the photos and times were his 3 C6 times that we all know about:
  1. 2009 ZR1 7:26
  2. 2012 Z06/Z07 7:22
  3. 2012 ZR1 7:19
I have no idea what (S) means, but these are the times associated with the C7 photos:
  1. C7 Z51 7:33 (S)
  2. C7 Grand Sport 7:27
  3. C7 Z06/Z07 7:10
  4. C7 ZR1 6:57 (S)
The C7 times are very impressive, but, for the life of me, I can't understand why they were never made public.

Hi guys you may or may not know that we are heading over to the Nürburgring with our Corvette C7 Z06 with our cooling modifications and a bunch of our other LG Motorsports parts to set a time.
So far I have spent five days running on track and logged over 720 miles on the Nürburgring in various BMW cars while our Corvette is being shipped over It is scheduled to arrive around September 10.
I have four more days schedule on track During that time we will make some time to run I have to dial the car in for the track will be on Pirelli Trofeo R tires. Bilstein made us Special set of double adjustable shocks with their Nurburgring valving. We have help from Forgline wheels- Stoptech brakes, and our LG motorsports Aero package which we feel exceeds that of the Corvette ZR 1.
Our goal is the sub 7 minute time for a full lap- not segment times - and it will be videotaped with the timer on screen. Shipping the car took longer than we anticipated with Customs and special bond to insure that we bring the car back.

I will be heading over in the 24th and I will stay there until October 10 looking for dry conditions. My main concern is the weather. Of the five days I spent on track one day was after a rain the night before and there were still parts of the track where the sun can’t reach because of the trees that stay wet. So in order to set a good time we need a full dry track.

Stay tuned —- we will keep you posted.

Lou Gigliotti

Maybe this will put an end to all the speculation. Thanks for the info and a happy retirement to Jim.

What?!

It's crazy that these times were not posted by GM. I would really like to know the reason.

Thanks for sharing. This puts the ZR1 in the top 5-10 depending on the list. Hard to believe these times are just coming out now.

For some reason it was not recorded as an official time. It would nice if GM explained why it wasn’t.

(S) could mean it was calculated using segment times and not a single complete lap?

Speaking of the Z06, that 7:10 time was done in 2015 before the secondary radiators and MRC upgrade. Imagine, a second go at it now..........

I noticed that too. Wonder what they did to the 2012 ZR1 to make it so much faster.

Boy! Some pictures show Jim had his fair share of "close/still alive" moments...

Maybe that's why they're posted as segment times added together, as opposed to one single completed lap. I don't think those are recognized as "official" lap times.

GM must be at a crossover point where they need to find a new ring driver. If they are serious about being competitive there they will NEED to send in the big guns (I. E. factory racers)....... and some CUP R's.

GM is not going to release a segmented lap as an official time. Not even Porsche is doing that any more and they seem to be the ones who started it.

The original ZR1 was run on the old PS2 tires, which are about 3 levels in grip below the current Cup 2 tires. Put them on the same tire and it isn't even close.

No it wasn't magnetic ride, the 2009 had that. The main difference was the Cup 1 tires, with the smaller differences being the PTM and the wider rear spoiler. Remember the Cup 1 tires don't have the grip of the Cup 2 tires used on the C7.

Pretty sure that the (S) means sector times. In that it is a calculated best time using his best sector times (doing the math). When they ran the '12 ZR1 the sector times said that he could have run a few seconds fast but they decided to run the C6 Z06/Z07 instead.

I'm sure there are some hard core, talented, amateur road race guys on board here that have great interest in these metrics. The overwhelming majority of the car enthusiasts of the world have little to no need for these times. Honestly, who really cares about a couple seconds give or take in a seven minute event. Anyone with a double digit IQ knows that there are scores of other factors at work here such as atmospheric conditions, driver skill, human error, and the list goes on. Is anyone seriously considering a ZR1 purchase going to change their mind because of what may be perceived as a poor "Ring Time"? This is a joke as 99.9% of us here could not post a time ourselves within 20 seconds of what the pros do so who cares.

Am I the only one here who didn’t know Jim retired? Dang! Seeing that he is retired, I wonder if he would comment on the C7 times?

I would disagree that the majority of owners have no interest in the ring times. I would say the opposite. It may have little bearing on the purchase but I for one am very interested in how the vette compares to other cars on the established measuring track

It would take 5 minutes for them to have hired a pro driver to set a time. They know this car is not capable of a 6:57 time or less.
