Default Key Fob Remote Help

Can someone please tell me how to start my car if the key fob remote has a dead battery?

Thanks,
Dale

If it’s just low put the fob in the holder in the steering column and it should work. If it’s dead I think you are sol

Assuming you're not locked out?? Try placing the FOB in the slot on the right side of your steering wheel. That's where I had to put mine the last time I got a "No Remote Present" pop up on the screen.

Not true.

You can start your car with a dead fob battery in the steering column slot. Heck! you can start your car with a fob w/o a battery in the steering column slot.

I think he meant if the FOB itself is bad, not the FOB battery.

Fobs never randomly become unprogrammed, if that's what you meant.

The thread was about the battery.

Lisa is correct. You don't even need a battery in the FOB to insert it into the slot and start the car. As long as the FOB is "linked" to the car and the FOB is functioning, the slot will allow the car to start. The OP asked about a dead FOB battery, not a bad FOB.

So you are saying that a remote can't go bad? That's funny. Also the OP does not know if it's the battery or the FOB itself, or if he does he hasn't posted.

FWIW, batteries wear! Replaced mine at 2 years, just to be sure. About a year later I was having trouble opening the door and then one day it would not start so put it in the steering column slot and all was fine. When I got home swapped with the FOB that had not been used for ~3 years. Worked fine for several weeks than same issue having trouble opening the door. Note I had replaced the car battery with a AMG that was reading fine.

Pulled both FOB batteries and checked with a meter I have had for years that puts a load on the battery depending on size. Both the one from the FOB that did not work and the one that had not been used for almost 3 years read barely in the green OK area! Bought two quality batteries and not like the cheap one from China I got on eBay a year before! All was fine.

Appears to me the FOB needs to be relatively high voltage and won't work when weak. When my Grand Sport is two years old will replace the FOB battery. Also looks like it drains even when not in use!

All he has to do is use the FOB not detected checklist in this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c7-g...s-and-rke.html and it'll walk him directly to a solution.
