Default New key FOB cannot marry to car

I ordered a spare key fob. The spare fob has the same part number and fcc code as the working fob. i put a new battery into the new fob. I tired to marry the new fob to the car, but nothing happens. I receive the dic mssg to insert fob 3, i put the new fob into the steering column but nothing happens after that. I should get another mssg to add fob 4 or otherwise complete the programming. The dic just stalls out at insert fob 3 and then times out.

I inserted the working fob iinto the sterring column while n the programming mode. The dic does not give me the mssg recognizing the original fob. I took the battery out of the working fob and inserted into the steering column. The car does start up. So, the steering column does recognize the fob.

I took the new fob to Ace Hardware. They tested the fob on their machine and it was transmitting so the fob appears to be good.

Should I exchange out the spare or can it be a steering column issue not being able to marry the spare fob? If a steering wheel issue I would need to go to the dealership.

Just hoping on swapping out fobs. the dealer can marry the fob without going through the steering column, but they will charge. The car is still under warranty bumper to bumper so if the steering column is the issue they can fix that.

If you got the message INsert new FOB, then everything is working. Try lightly pushing on the end of the FOB and hold it in place. I helped another guy here in Jax and all I did was place the FOB in the slot and hold it with a little pressure and it programmed after his repeated insertions failed.

Hi, tried that and still does not recognize. I am going to chevy to check on the transmitter and the steering column reader. if transmitter is bad i can exchange it. if steering column reader is bad, that would be a warranty issue. I will get back with my findings; just trying to find time to do this.

If you take out the battery of a good FOB, place the battery-less FOB into the slot and can start the car, the slot is working. If, during the programming, it asks for FOB#3, then the system is functioning, so, the only thing left is a bad or incorrect new FOB.

Went to dealer. they test the fob and the fob transmitted fine. The dealer did not have time to scan/program the remote today and had to schedule an appt. The dealer said should have sync as they do not have problems with this; would need to diagnose. I decided to send the fob back for an exchange. If the new fob does not sync, then it is a issue with the car and have it done under warranty.

Received my replacement fob. The seller made sure the part number, fcc id, every number on the working fob matched the replacement fob. Checked the battery and it was new. Tried the trunk dance and it just times out. Have a date with the dealership, probably the reader in the steering column is bad. Still under warranty or they can scan program the fob. We will see on Monday when I go to the dealer.

Let us know how it works out. I ran into difficulty also and may just let the dealer program it during spring oil change.

There is nothing that changes in the fob when pairing (the car learns the fob, not the other way around), so unless the fob is damaged (or incorrect) in some way, the problem is in the car.

The OP could buy a used fob, and it wouldn't make any difference. In theory, you could program a thousand cars to all be started by one fob.

Then the instructions in the Owner's manual are incorrect. The long method of programming will allow a correct FOB (Serial number) to be added as FOB 1 or 2. You don't need need a Virgin FOB.

Scenario: You buy the car used or you lose a FOB with a new car and now you only have 1 FOB for the car. You buy a FOB that matches the serial number of the FOB in your hand. You do the long program for adding FOBs to the car and insert the newly bought FOB 1st at the correct time and it becomes FOB #1, your current FOB will then be programmed as #2 (even if it was #1 before the programming). If you have more FOBs to program, they would add as 3 - 8 and that's all you can program. 1 & 2 will have the memory function capabilities, 3 - 8 will not have memory but will operate the car but you will need to move the seat and stuff manually.

This thread gives information on how to trouble shoot the "No Fobs Detected" message, the test of the slot, the addition of 3-8, and the programming from scratch (long program) to start over and have 1 & 2 in the event you are down to 1 FOB in your possession. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c7-g...s-and-rke.html

I had to buy a replacement fob after having one go through the wash. I ordered it through my dealer and had them program it; I was in and out in less than 30 minutes with no stress! I don't like paying for stuff I feel I can probably do myself, but when it comes to the electronics in newer cars I just open the wallet...
