2016 Z51 vert....dead as a door nail
Hey Folks
dont know if anyone has had a similar experience and how it was resolved..
Went out to the vet the other day (6000 miles) and it was completely dead....could not open the doors or trunk...so had to use the key to get into the trunk......Jump started it and it fired right up..
Took it into the dealer and explained the problem.....also told them that the electric brake service icon with wrench was on the day before...
Waited while they performed a test on the battery and nothing showed up....
i explained to the dealer that I was not comfortable driving the car when it could die anytime....
They kept it overnight to do a extended test on it.....
Funny that the electric brake code did not show up on the first test...they said because the battery was dead all codes were cleared........they said that even when the car is parked some things could power on ? Sound like a bucket of blue steam to me.....when the car has circuitry to power things off after approximately 20 minutes....very frustrating...
Any insight from members would be appreciated..
thanks
Frank

I would replace the battery before jumping to any other conclusions, the Vette is a electrical hog & a good battery is a must as well as battery tender if the car is not driven much.

thanks for the response...the dealer tested the battery and it’s ok....I always keep it on a battery tender when it’s stored for 2 or more weeks..

Question?. If car was completely dead, it was jump started, so battery was dead at that point, then when it went to the dealer, how did it come alive if battery was OK, If battery was dead & they charged it & then tested it, not likely it can be any good. Some part of the story is missing.

I've had bad batteries check good by all the shop tests, but NOT work consistently, if at all over a short time, in the car.
Also, the battery connections can be a problem. I don't know how many people's cars I've "fixed" by cleaning the connectors alone. Even ones that look okay can function intermittently, at best. Thus, was the case with a friend's C5 last month. He'd bought a new Optima a year or two previously, had put it in and all was fine, then it wouldn't start. Also, the trickiest was a typical molded battery connector that was broken from the cable INSIDE the connector itself. Looked like brand new. I liked to never have found it... alive and well, then without any notice totally dead.
I relate all this to simply demonstrate how varied things can be that let us down. SO many places, so many possibilities.
All the best.

FYI
nothing is missing from the above detail....
here is the update.
got a call from the dealer yesterday....(Saturday) seems like the technician did not test the battery correctly and the battery is no good...
they replaced the battery and I can pick up the car....they are closed on Sunday but the service writer informs me that he will be there to do paperwork and I can pickup the car.
Sunday morning....i go into the garage and try to open the trunk...but no luck....switch in the back does not work and the button on the fob does not work ...start the car...ok.....push the trunk release and no luck.....something is definitely wrong,,,,,,try to open the top...first with the fob and then with the dash switch....no luck...
Leave the car at the dealership and go home a little frustrated...
we we will see what tomorrow brings...

From the 2017 manual.
If the battery has recently been
reconnected or if the vehicle has
been jump started, the top may
not operate until the power
windows have been indexed.
You may also want to open the trunk with the key first time as well.
Good luck.

Picked up the car today...hopefully all is well with the new battery...
when I went to pick the car up yesterday we did reindex the windows...no luck....
this morning when they checked it out they said the the convertible top thought it was partially open (tried the top yesterday...did not work) they manually brought it thru a cycle and that seemed to resolve my problem..
