Default Recall? Or dealer playing games?

Received a recall notice on my 2017 GS yesterday but it came from a local Chevy dealer (not where I bought it) and it doesn't reference the nature of the defect. It does reference my VIN and has a MFGR Campaign #. Other recall notices I have received came from GM and noted the nature of the defect. Anyone else get these and did you determine them to be a actual recall?

You can double check it through the My Chevrolet app on your phone or at NHTSA
https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls

You can go on-line to the NHSTA and check for recalls on your vehicle by serial number.

Yes I've gotten them from a local dealer before.

Same here. Got the GM notice a few weeks after the dealer notification... ironically while the car was at the dealer for the recall!

Any recall notices I have received have always come directly from GM. Not saying it is bogus but can’t hurt to check it out using a source mentioned above.

Recall notices will come from GM, not the dealer...just call the dealer and ask, right?

Dealerships are under an obligation with the manufacturer to assist in completing recalls. For this reason a dealer can at times be involved with notifying owners about open recalls. It is most likely not a scam. There are a variety of reason why owners might not receive the original notice of the recall from the manufacturer. Not knowing the exact circumstances here, it is hard to make that determination.

The only recall notices I have ever received from a local dealer are sales attempts disguised as a recall notice to get you to come in and look at new cars. They want to "recall" your car because it is so valuable to them as a trade in because the demand is so high.

Do the suggestion in post #2. If you see it listed, take it in. If it is not listed, make a paper airplane out of it and fly it to the recycle bin.

Default Uh Oh......my clock

My clock is definitely running fast, 'bout 3 minutes per month, do I:
a. Fear this is an indication of things to come?
b. Retard my timing by 3 degrees?
c. Shouldn't the clock be running more slowly the faster I go (sorry Albert)?
d. Demand a new computer (don't forget the free car wash)?
e. Fear I will age faster?
f. Add up the time and get my oil changed sooner?
g. Set ALL my clocks 3 minutes faster?
This Vette ownership thing is kinda overwhelming.....

Update from an embarrassed OP. After re-reading the notice it seems the recall notice was for my 2008 Vette (long ago sold) and not my '17. Thus why it came from a dealer that had serviced it in the past (though they have not had my '17 in their shop). So 100% on me. Stupid is as stupid does.

Get a lawyer, and sue for a new car. I wouldn't put up with crap like that from a 70K car. It's inhuman. Or, you could just set the clock back three minutes every now, and then, your call brother.

BTW, IDK if you're serious, or not my friend. But, the clock in my '16 actually does gain time.

Glad you figured it out. But, still good advice here to check the mentioned site for "real" recalls. Dealers are not above such scams, which I'd report to the Better Business Burea and USPS.

Recalls are usually required and are safety related... others may just be a service bulletin to fix a problem that my not affect the safety of the vehicle., like the anti-siphon grid in the fuel neck that can come out
