I used to love the black wheels with the red caliper look but I think it may be played out a bit. Now, I like the standard nickel finish with black calipers. It is nice that we have choices.
Well, to be fair, unless I misunderstand you, machined black wheels are only $1,000 more than the (regular) black. The machine face are $1,495 and the black are $495. So, not $1,500-$2,000 over black. And, not $2,000 over the nickel finish.

yeah I was comparing to the wheels I have on the Stingray. They are machine faced with black painted pockets. They cost $1495 over the standard wheels. I think the black wheels with the red stripe around then are $1995.

LOL... Yeah, that's what I have on order (stingray)... TPW next week. Machine-faced black for $1495. I considered the "regular" black for $495 but it seemed like EVERY Long Beach Red at three different dealers had black wheels--didn't want what everyone else had so... Yes, both the yellow stripe and red stripe black one... OUCH !!

This whole chrome/silver -vs- black wheel thing... I like both so I will have a bit of both--haha.

Why not just go with some 26" DUBS and air lift suspension? Probably just as nice as those sheepish white or red things. And some say chomes don't belong on a Vette. Yech!

The black will be my rims when "driving", the chrome will be my rims when "showing"...

There is a set of really awesome looking blue ones in the for sale section. They'd look amazing on your car.

I'm not much into chrome but yours look good. I'm a black rim guy, myself.

The older guys tend to like chrome better; I think it's due to when they were younger, the crap cars had black rims, and the nice ones chrome.

Nicely stated.
There’s talk of NICKEL finish. Nickel, AFAIK, has not been used as a final finish for brightwork on any car for well over 70 years. Are you guys referring to POLISHED finish, which is aluminum?

Me, I like the Black look this time around
Exactly how I felt. Personally I love the aggressive, F-117 Nighthawk approach so I bought mine as such, but to each their own. Beautiful car either way.

I agree—loads of darkness and black = ominous and, therefore, wicked. Nice !

Had them on mine when I purchased and took them off and put chrome on and love them. Black reminds me when I was a teen anger and had chrome rims but when I had a flat I have to put it on and it was black. Looked terrible

IMO, the black rims look great when you have the sun shining on them so you can see them. In your pic it is hard for me to even see the detail of the wheel as it is cast in the shadow of the car. Also, the black wheels lack the contrast between the tire and the rim itself so I feel like the entire wheel and tire become one large dark void in the wheel well.

I have owned black wheels before but this time around I am going with nickel finish which doesn’t look as flashy as chrome but enables you to see the wheel detail much better than black. Either way it will be coated with brake dust most of the time so it will be some shade of dusty nickel. It is nice that we have choices and that all the Corvettes do not look exactly the same like Toyota Camrys.

I guess it's a sign of the times that some people would be attracted to a look that they themselves describe as "mean" or "sinister". How does that become popular? It's surely not a look that I would ever adopt. Call me a proud old foggy that likes "pretty".

I still like the black with red caliper but I already owned a 1LE Camaro with the same combo. I am gonna try out the nickel finish this time. It seems to be a good compromise between chrome (too shiny for me) and black (not enough contrast) but if let the brake dust build up enough it will turn from nickel to graphite.

When black wheels accumulate brake dust they turn brown.
