2016 Coupe Z51 auto trans 8 speed just got car. Happen twice in 500 miles. Start up let fluids circulate than go to Reverse..nothing, go to drive nothing, back to reverse still idling 3 seconds than violently shift to reverse with a BANG... clunking of gears and U joints noises. [Foot never left the brake] So bad I looked to make sure case did not split... Took for ride and everything felt fine...?... but how many times can it do that before something breaks? Anyone have that problem or know cause... big safety issue to if not paying attention. ant help would be appreciated.

You need to go to a dealer ASAP. This is not normal. There is a TSB for these issues.

Yes. Get it right in to the dealer. Sounds like the stator assembly that controls the fluid flow is not working properly. Hopefully that is all it is.

Known issue with A8. Document it with a video, as otherwise you must show them.

Welcome to ownership of a GM A8 transmission. You are going to need an update (TSB on this issue) and it includes changing out a few components internally. Its a MAJOR repair to fix, they have to remove EVERYTHING from the rear end including suspension and body panels, the transmission and the whole ediff. Done right is should fix your issue but the process is ugly. Make sure you take it to a higher volume Corvette dealer for the repair. Good Luck. been there done that.
