Default Close, But No Cigar

I had been a C2 and C3 owner in the mid-80's to mid-90's and wanted back in the Corvette world. I joined this site to learn as much as I could about the C7 as I wanted to replace my 2010 Boxster. The site has done well in this regard. I was surprised to read of the many issues the car has had but we (my wife drove the Boxter at least as much as I did) headed out last week for a first real look and drive. We wanted a convertible and, we thought, a manual trans as our Boxter has. We drove the MT and then decided to drive an AT, though not a convertible. We liked the AT and decided that was what we wanted. With the top down I wanted to see the cargo space as we travel in our car, with luggage. Well, the discovery that there is so little cargo space was not a good one. We headed home that evening and discussed. I decided to check out our local Porsche dealership (where we bought our car) to see what they might have with used Boxster's. They had a 2017 S with 4500 miles in exactly the color combo we wanted with the Corvette, white exterior with a beige interior. We headed over last Friday to take a peak. It looked good and was well optioned. We drove it and I was very impressed. The PDK transmission is unreal and will be a game changer in the C8. Asking price was $25k below current build price and with a good trade in value the deal was done. The quality/reliability issues, particularly with the AT, and lack of cargo space just turned me off on the C8 for our needs. The new Boxster runs about where the C8 does and, frankly, more than my driving ability will find. I did enjoyed this forum and the great information provided.

A thread about why you didn't buy a C7? That's a new one.

For the record, the vert has a lot more luggage space in the trunk than you think when the top is up.

Actually a thread on how helpful this site was. Top down long trips are what we do. Enjoy our hobby.

Who cares? What a useless thread. Close but no cigar? I ordered my Vette and never even looked at a Porsche mostly because I don't like the way they look. Maybe I should go to a Porsche forum and make up some BS about how much I wanted one but decided to buy a Corvette instead.
I also thought Porsche had great resale. From the sounds of it that 4500 mile 2017 depreciated a lot.

Out of curiosity, did you lower the panel in the vert trunk that the top folds down into? It essentially doubles the trunk space when the top is up.

I find it funny that you really felt the need to post this ... I'm no Porsche hater but you post this to basically tell all the corvette owners that you chose the "better" car ... good for you

You chose a boxter over a Corvette ? Lol.

I guess you will be leaving now. Somehow, I'm glad.

Bye.

Guess the OP didn't realize that a Boxter is a girl's car

Well, not many Porsche models can compare with the great design of the C7. I saw one that was "pure sex" at a traveling concepts show at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta...but for the most part, the C7 design beats any Porsche design.

LOL...Why am I not surprised all the Corvette owners are butt-hurt about OP's post. Yes, there are other great cars out there other than the Corvette, and yes, people buy them. Good for you on posting your thoughts, and enjoy your Porsche. I'm a 2019 Corvette owner, but I'm not offended you posted.

Butt hurt? Really? I see absolutely no use for his post. I'm sure most of us know there are lots of great cars out there and most of us would be very happy to own many of them. Does that mean we should visit their forums and tell them how much we wanted to buy them but we decided the Corvette was better so no cigar. Who cares? Buy what makes you happy. I bought a Corvette and my Brother bought a Porsche and my Brother in law bought a Mustang. I never tell them that their car is inferior or point out their faults. What's the point? Different strokes for different folks. I'm very happy neither one owns a Vette because it would be boring if we all owned the same car.

To each his own. And who knows, may they won't enjoy the Porsche as much as they hoped and he'll give the Vette another look. No biggie.

I have to admit, this forum almost scared me out of buying a C7 as well... Still scares me at times. But I just couldn't resist that Torch Red GS!

Every car forum will scare you. In the last ten years I have owned BMW-Audi-Cadillac-Honda-Toyota and Chevy. Every Forum I joined for those brands was filled with the sky is falling complainers. It was very depressing reading problem after problem and they all made me feel like I just bought the biggest **** wagon on the planet.

That’s the nature of forums. People start threads about complaints, they don’t start threads saying nothing is wrong. Also keep in mind that only a very small percentage of C7 owners are on this forum, which is true of all car forums.
