Default Air Filter Replacement - What a SOB of a job

I just replaced my old air filter. Watched the videos, seemed super simple.

Getting all the parts OUT was straight forward and easy...but getting the filter cover back ON was a major SOB of a job. The rubber on the bottom rim of filter pushes out on the cover, which hinders the tabs on the bottom to align... I literally had to (almost) muscle them together... Just a BEYOND stupid design. You would think in this day and age, we could design a flow system that is easy to maintain - by that I mean easy to swap out filter type parts. Why can Lexus design a system where I flip three tabs to gain access, and can swap out the filter in under a minute???

Ok sorry - my venting is over!

PS - Please dont post "I didn't have any trouble doing it"...

Can be a bit hard getting it back on takes practice - sometimes it works out easily sometimes not

I was thinking the same exact thing when I installed my BMS filter. From start to finish it took me about an hour...to change an air filter!

Removed the intake tube from the TB and filter housing... easy pezy. 10-15 minute job. Could it be easier? Yup, but everything in the engine bay is a tight fit, and it’s even tighter in the Z06.

Completely agree, that the rubber on the bottom rim of filter pushes out on the cover totally hinders the tabs on the bottom.

OP, I agree. I just did my first filter change a couple weeks ago. Exact same thoughts.

Interesting.

How often do you replace it?

I've done it, and it is a PITA! But not so much as to pay someone else.

No kidding, I agree.

Can you imagine taking it into the dealer and getting the bill being charged an hour labor and having to pay a hundred bucks to change an air filter! Yikes!

Gone are the days of undoing the wing nut and throwing in a new one in 30 seconds or less!

I buy the filter for $56. I bring it to my dealer when I go for the oil change and they install it for no charge with the oil change! That is probably just my dealer, but worth a try at yours. Why they don't charge? I don't have a clue, and I'm not going to ask.

The reason I replaced in a short amount of time - 3 time is I went to K&N - thought I try BMS - liked K&N so back to K&N

I'm not looking forward to changing mine when the time comes, but at only 8000 miles I've got a long way to go. I figure I'll check it around 25 or 30k.

Default The testy two

The two items (that I used to do) that have caused the most grief and have really let me know any basic work
is beyond my (meager) skills was replacing the air filter AND replacing the battery; each is now handled by my friendly neighborhood
Vette mechanic.....along with being able to dunk a basketball these skills have dropped into the deep recesses of my past.....
