Proper Hood Closing Procedure
#42
I would never close my '14 hood in the same manner as any of my C6 hoods.
All of the C6 hoods require(d) a fair bit of force.
The C7 hood only requires it to be (let) dropped from about a foot. It did take a bit of getting used to.

I hold hood at rear center from about 12" and push it closed, this seems to work well.
You are not going to easily break the carbon fiber hood however have to be careful not to crack your paint from flexing of the hood.
You commonly fine stress cracks in hood latch areas on C1-2-3s.
Now, the C4s where the entire front end raises can be a bear to raise, not as much so to lower considering the substantial weight.

I've tried all I've seen or read for my '18 and none are consistently effective, no matter how careful I am in my consistency.
Regarding my C5, the salesman who specialized in Vettes showed me what he called the "only way to do it," and it has never failed. As an experiment early-on I tried other ways that seemed as logical and none ever worked. Go figure. ALL too, too silly!

Is there a recommended or proper hood closing procedure? When closing the hood should the hood be held a certain height and then dropped to close it? Or should it be gently rested on its latches and then pressed on one side at a time to close it? Looking in the owners manual it says, "pull the hood down and close it firmly"

The OCD level of many Corvette owners never ceases to amaze me.

Remember the hood is carbon fiber and pretty light. It takes a bit of momentum to get the latches to latch. a couple feet is fine (never had a problem in over 4 years of closing mine)

Melting Slicks
Wow, it amazes me how Corvette owners are so ****. I drop my hood from about a foot. It always latches. Next, we will see a thread on how hard to push the start button or which finger to use.
