Can somebody explain this, please

Your eye sight must be really bad. I bet chrome wheels look like a shiny hubcap to you from a short distance.

I guess I'm a real jerk! I don't like chrome or black.

My preference would be polished aluminum, but not really an option with the standard Z51 wheels unless you opt for the R86 wheels, but I really like the design of the standard Z51 wheels. 1st world problems for sure...

I prefer carbon fiber, but for streetable practicality a nice set of matte black wheels looks far less cheap than chrome. Chrome looks just like the cheapest stainless steel you can find that someone polished up. That and one good brake and poof, now they're carbon coated chrome which looks even more like *** than shiny chrome.

A couple of days ago while stopped for a light I watched the cars turning in front of me. All had wheels which were nearly identical in color, a light grey. Thus, any color other than this make a statement, good or bad depending on one's preference.

They look REALLY good with that color. I too dislike chrome, and find black unattractive except in a few instances (like on a white or silver C7 with red calipers where black wheels flat-out work).
It’s great that we have so many choices. No excuse whatever to have a Vette with wheels you don’t like!

I added a little touch of red to match my brake calipers and give the wheels a little pop.

I chose black because I didn't like silver painted or chrome. If there were a machined or brushed aluminum or similar option, I might have considered that. For my 2017 AW, I felt black looked the best compared to silver painted or chrome. However if I like the C8 ME, I might not pick black again but try something new.

You could probably ask the same question, but instead of inquiring about black wheels, you could ask about AOC. Times change, sometimes for the good and sometimes for the bad. The latter remains perplexing, JMO.

i wouldnt mind trading my silver for some kind of medium to dark grey.. just not into light colored rims on a black car, as in my case.
meanwhile, chrome just imo doesnt look good on the "medium" colored cars such as middling-red, blue, green. a nice anthracite/charcoal/whatever middle of the road grey color is pretty much foolproof. it avoids the chrome/silver problem of being 'too' bright without just disappearing into the wheel wells.
the rims themselves are just another part of the car and they can stand out in their own right, and stand on their own merits. its not necessary that they just be invisible, regardless of issues such as wheel gap.

Really depends on personal preference and what you like. I did several builds of mine on line, and had black wheels on a few, chrome on others, and one with the machine faced black painted option. I settled on chrome, as I think it looked best with my color choice. That said, the car my new vette will replace has dark grey wheels, and I loved the look on that car.
