All the good points you make, make sense to me. Yes, you're sacrificing some power but gaining usefulness. All you have to do is damage the wing once with a suitcase, or get crazy gas mileage or lose control in the rain (or drive 25 mph, or its equivalent and worry about being rear-ended)....but you've already thought about all that. Note: I didn't know the ZR1 didn't have weather mode; very interesting.

I didn't know either. They probably determined that nothing could control the beast.

You can not go wrong with a Z06, I love mine and have no complaints. Your reasons and logic for passing on the ZR1 make sense given your travel plans, etc.
As long as you are 100% sure the ZR1 with the no weather mode, the rear wing etc. are compromises you can not make then all is good. Good luck and enjoy whichever one you choose.

No complaints with my Z06. Very diveable for 650hp. Never once did I feel that it’s over-powered or not suitable for street use. Nonetheless, I’m still considering the ZR1, and would have probably already purchased one if not for the C8 curiously. Good new is that there’s a C7 model to fulfill most desires.

The other option is a sleeper with all the amenities...a 3LZ base model and put a 650 or 750 package on it. It can be pretty enjoyable when someone believes you have a "run of the mill" Corvette.
IMHO the new ZR1, at least aside from the park bench wing, is up there with the best looking vettes of all time (depending on the color combo).
Granted, I'm a young 44 whipper snapper.

If I wanted a ZR1 or ZO6 I'd get one. I know I'm probably in the minority, but I think the 'base' Stingray is the sleekest looking of the iterations, especially in NRB (eyes of the beholder).
From a performance standpoint, mine is used strictly as a cruiser. It has more power than I could ever need or use legally or illegally. Even in AZ, I couldn't picture myself going 200 mph (or even 100 mph for that matter) w/o a visit from a trooper.
It has everything I could want or need, and has been flawless after almost 42 months and 20k miles.

I was deciding between the Z and GS about a year ago - somewhat of a similar decision. I'll drive the sh*t out of it, probably 100k miles+, so I decided on the GS for its simpler drivetrain (reliability) and better economy. My friend has a Z and I love it, but the GS has more than enough power. I'd say if you want a car to drive a lot, the GS or Z are better. If you want the absolute max performance and will use the car on an occasional longer trip, I'd go for the ZR.

^^^ My thing is that torque feels so good on that Z06! You don't have to break the law to enjoy it. I got hooked on Z06 shopping because my son has one and he left it with me to drive while he was across the sea. I didn't want to give it back when he got back.

I get what you mean about the torque but the funny is that soon with all these electric cars coming out instant torque will be the norm. For example, I drove a standard RWD Tesla Model 3 the other day and when you step on it feels like my stomach was in my throat. Literally like a roller coaster and it makes no noise and does not shift a single gear while doing it. It is quite an eerie experience at first actually.

I don’t see this wing as being much more of an issue than the Z06 spoiler.
The only time the wife or I have ever used weather mode was at spring mountain, and that was because it was part of the class, and we drive through a lot of weather. Just keep your foot out of it when conditions deteriorate. You know how to do that.
Jmo, have fun with whatever you choose!

Nah, get this one with a real wing. It looks like if you tilt the wing just right you can take flight. Only $138k and it can be yours.

Yeah, you made the mistake of driving something faster and now you will never be satisfied with anything less. Is your son's Z06 a manual and your Stingray an auto? The manual, even in a Stingray or GS with the LT1 will feel like it has more torque than the Stingray with the auto and it may provide the the fun you are looking for. The thing that is great about the GS is it is a more balanced package. You can put your foot down and use all 460hp, where as in the Z06 you have to respect it since the extra power can upset the chassis and overpower the tires so much more easily.

Need to step up the horsepower. GS is terrific, but I already have 460 and drive it hard and fast when appropriate. And electric? No problem with them, but I want good old fashion exhaust like my cereal. Snap, crackle and pop! Maybe they can provide sound effects in the electric cars for that someday.

Nothing beats the value v performance compromise of a C7 Z06.
they can be had loaded for mid 70s. They are faster than a Lamborghini Huracan and so many others, yet docile enough to be driven across the country. Especially with the new mag ride calibration.
a ZR1 is the ultimate expression of the C7. But you're gonna pay for the privilege. And if they make a year 2 of it it wont hild its value enough to justify that expense (unless loaded) just my opinion - I was in market for a 3LT Stingray when I bought my 3LZ Z06. Couldn't beat 20% off. Steal of the century.

My son has a manual, but I have driven an A8 Z06 and you can really feel the torque with that to. I am still on the fence regarding stick or auto. I don't want a balanced package. I like to live on the edge. .

Now if I could have and afford two Vettes, a ZR-1 would definitely be one. But when I was faced with the question of practicality on a day-in and day-out basis of having just one Vette, I just couldn't even justify a Z06. Most of my driving is under 40 MPH due to metro traffic. And a good share of it, is under 30.
