17 qts. of Mobile 1 later
On my way to "Cruisin the Coast" in the Biloxi Miss area, I stopped in Crestview FL for an oil change on my 2014 Stingray at the Chevy dealer. After paying my bill I noticed that I was charged for 10 qts. of Mobile 1. After asking to see the service manager and reminding him that this was not a Z51 or ZO6 and it was now approx. 3 qts over full he said no problem, they would drain to the proper level. While watching the two techs (?) fumble with a plastic jug I demanded them drain all the oil and start over with new oil. To their credit they did so with no argument.
I think what blew my mind the most was when I asked the service mgr. how this happened he told me that the techs didn't scroll down far enough on the AMZOIL website to find the proper amount of oil required for the Stingray. Why a GM service tech would need a website from some other manufacturer of lube products is a mystery to me. Seems to me the GM specs would have been readily available.
I noticed they had a new ZO6, a Z51 and a Stingray on display. Buyers, be alert.

By now they should know without even looking it up that the dry sump takes about 9.5 quarts and the wet sump takes closer to 7 (although in my experience it only needs around 6 at oil change time, a lot of oil gets stuck behind)
I'll be the first to say, this is why I change my own oil....

I'm no mechanic but even I can look at the engine in a C7 and tell if it has a dry sump. This confirms that dealers put the least trained employees on oil change duty probably just below the ones that wash and detail. Pretty sad but not surprising.

As surprising to me is how little some C7 salespeople know about the car.
IMO Chevy dealers should be required by GM to have at least one salesperson and one tech that's knowledgeable on the C7 in order to offer the car for sale.

Allen Turner? I would not let them change a refill on an ink pen. Preston Hood in Ft. Walton has their Corvette tech do the oil changes.

{"Why a GM service tech would need a website from some other manufacturer of lube products is a mystery to me.") Glad it worked out for you, So how was "Cruisin the Coast this year? I did 2017,2016,2015 but had a last minute cancellation need this year. I have an old Navy friend that lives in Long Beach which is great for me. No hotel bill and he shows me the great local places to eat. I will go back in 2019..

Not an excuse, a reason
We complain about (many) car sales people, we complain about (many) service reps but when you see
how poorly most are paid, can you really be surprised? Like most of the clothes we buy and many of the
services we pay for (day care, etc.) we want them cheap (me included) but we also demand quality....you
truly get what you pay (or don't Pay for)…..still a truly ignorant potentially terrible mistake was avoided by
your perusal of the bill

Sorry that happened to you. A couple of friends of mine got hosed by them. I keep telling my friends to contact me first. If I can't fix it I know who can. The last horror story was on my friend's 2008. He was having charging system faults. They got him for an alternator, belts, diagnostics, labour, and a battery and still didn't fix it. Found the starter had a broken contact drawing power. I helped replace the starter and all was good. He had a $1700 repair bill when a $115 starter and free labour fixed it.

I must be lucky, my dealer has 2 techs certified to work on Corvettes and even an oil change will be done by one of them.
And just to be safe I specify every time that I only want one of them to work on it.
When the free oil changes run out, i'll be changing it myself of course!

Many Chevy (a C7 is a Chevy) dealers sell very few Corvettes, and probably see even fewer for service, including oil changes. That doesn't excuse what happened, but thinking an oil change bay person should be able to just look at, and know, what engine is in every Chevy ever sold and how much oil goes in it is laughable.
And it's not Mobile 1, it's Mobil 1.
