Default Grinding noise at 1500-1800 rpm

Noticed a grinding sound at low rpm (1500-1800) with minimal application of the gas pedal.
Did some research online and it sounds like the differential perhaps?

Anyone have this happen?
It went into limp mode and a flat bed is coming to take to the dealer 🙄

Sounds like the "warble" There is a huge thread here on that. Nobody that has reported the warble has reported any sort of failure of the differential though, so it's possible it's just an annoying noise that doesn't cause any harm.

I hope they just replace and it's fixed. Wonder why the cel is on and went to limp mode then?

Took my 2018 GS A8 in on 16th of Oct. Same kind of sound. Dealer said they think it's torque tube or flex plate. Four days later have not heard a word from dealer. Was told the fix would take about 10 days. Going to call on Monday to find out what they found.

Check out this thread on the WARBLE noise. My YouTube video is posted within this a dozen times. If so, it's the differential.

Here's the link to my YouTube video that was sent to Mary Berra ( CEO of GM )

Base Stingray, A8, any gear, any drive mode, any exhaust setting..... always around 1500 rpm, light foot on the gas pedal.

How can it be the differential if it always happens at the same revs? That makes no sense

I have often questioned that myself when people report about the warble. I figured if it was the diff it would occur at the exact same mph every time, not the same rpm.

You may want to read through the 2108 replies to the thread "Warble Sound Occasionally" that I attached the link to as in that there are MANY folks who have had the entire differential, as well as some folks who had parts of the diff replaced.

I can't specifically answer your question and to How can it be the differential. My car was one of the very first ones to exhibit the issue and I was directly part of the initial push for answers. In the end, my video went to Mary Berra and the C7 Development Engineer for noise and vibration came to Gettysburg for 2 days of sound analysis with two HP sound analyzers and some laptops..... the end result was my car being bought back by GM Engineering to get to the root cause, which I was told by the Corvette Brand Quality Mgr was the differential. After buying back our car, and we factory ordered a new Grand Sport, as they along with Z06 and Z51 were not affected as they have an electronic diff, so I've only been watching from the side lines.

GM should have just given you that brand new GS in a straight exchange for your old car, for your troubles and the fact that they used your car to investigate this problem further.

At first I thought you may have the dreaded "warble" also. But, that will not throw a CEL. I know as mine has had the warble since new, and it's at 12K mile now. So it's probably something else. Good luck, I hope it's not serious.

Keep us updated please. I may be completely off base, but since I haven't seen a CEL on mine from the warble I don't think I am.

Mine had the exact same issues, 2017 GS A8. Ended up being the Driveline Support Assembly (torque tube), there are some service bulletins on the problem. I was fortunate that my dealer had one in stock so I had the car back within 48 hours. Apparently it’s a big job and requires precision to ensure that it is aligned properly or the engine may be damaged. Mine is running well since the repair. All you can do is have it diagnosed by a quality mechanic. Best of luck and hopefully it’s a minor issue in your case.

So the CEL/Limp mode was something with the transmission that they updated and fixed. And they said they had an exhaust flange that had become completely unbolted, and that's what the rattling sound was. Not sure why it only happened between 1500-2000 rpms while moving, but the noise appears to be gone since I picked it up this morning.
