Default Sound deadening

I have a WeatherTech mat covering the rear of my coupe. Has anyone tried putting a self adhesive sound deadener on the bottom? If so, did it help? Also what brand did you use?

If you are referring to self adhesive as in dynomat then yes. I and several other have done that along with dynopad.Done properly it makes a huge difference.

Just got done doing some work on a 2007 Vette and someone has stuck the dynomat to the outside bottom of the car.........

Depending on which model you have most of the road noise in Coupes comes from the rear hatch area. The main culprits are the rear wheel wells and the hatch floor. I added a soundproofing mat to the hatch and soundproofed the underside of the wheel wells using dynamat. BIG DIFFERENCE.

BTW, I removed the wheel well liner and applied dynamat to the car’s structure and underside of the plastic wheel well.

For those who put dynomatt on the outside of the car. Does this only work if you don't drive the car in the rain? I would think these would mold and get nasty if you used the car as a daily driver.

I made some sound measurements with just an older Blockit mat in the trunk, nothing anywhere else. As you can see from the link below, neither my ears nor my decibel meter could hear any difference. I don't think that a WeatherTech mat with stickon sound deadener would do any better. As others mentioned, the wheel wells and other areas are much more significant. Of course, if you really quiet down those other areas, then quieting the trunk floor could be helpful.

One often missed spot is in the trunkin the cavity behind the rear panel. This alo e will make a difference.

FatMat Rattletrap here. A knockoff of Dynamat at ~ 60% cost as a WAG. It made a HUGE difference to my c5z06 w/headers and titanium exhaust; same treatment on my stock c7 z51 with even better results. Tamed a loud rumble that overpowered the OEM stereo down to quiet-enough-for-normal-conversation. VERY pleased; on the z51, I only installed rear hatch and interior wheelwells.

Two days ago, I installed a Corsa X-pipe and Akrapovics. I found an "Amazon return-item" 25sf roll of Rattletrap for 40% off and bought it in advanced anticipation to add in because of the exhaust mod, but I don't think I'll add any because the single-layer application has done so well.

Check out forum vendor Crazy Cowboy. He has a DIY kit you can buy that will make road noise a thing of the past. It's on my To Do list of mods for next year. Too cold to work in the garage now.

Doing the wheel wells isn't exactly on the outside of the car. The wheel well liner is between the tire and the CLD. CLD (EG Dynomat) doesn't mold. If you take a look at Maxie2u's 1st picture you'll see a grey rectangular spot to the right of the upper A arm mounts. That is GM's attempt at noise control from the wheel well.

I did the same thing Maxie2u did and it did make a noticeable difference. It didn't take it to Lexus levels, but I can now hear music much more clearly at 60mph that I could before.
