Default Steering Wheel Volume Controls Don't Work

I performed a search and read conflicting information regarding this issue. As stated, I can't seem to get my steering wheel volume controls working. It seems the other buttons and controls work, i.e. cruise control, phone/call buttons, gauges, trip detail, just not the audio volume controls on the lower right side of the steering wheel. One thread confirmed it may be a start-up glitch and eventually auto-corrects itself.

Before I bring this to the attention of the dealership service tech at my first oil change, is there something that I'm doing wrong in programming the audio options? I know not to press on the buttons, rather click them from behind, similar to the track adjustments and Rev Match paddles, however I want to make sure it's not user error during initial programming.

I read through the owner's manual and didn't find anything requiring specific programming. Also, I believe the fix is a simple module access through the front after removing the horn/airbag correct?

Try a hard reset, disconnect battery, wait 5 minutes, reconnect.

Or simply shutoff the radio and wait a few

Check to see if you're muted at the "radio" control on the dash, or if you've pushed the mute button on the steering wheel.....that's where I start when I have no sound.

You don't "program" volume buttons. Their function is simple and static. They either work or they don't.

BTW what do the "Fav" buttons do on the other side of the steering wheel? They should either go forward or backward a song or an amount of time depending on the app they are driving (radio, bluetooth, USB, etc).

I had that problem after I had R&R'd the steering wheel trim. Turned out I hadn't fully seated the connector.

Thanks. The Fav buttons or the tracks up/down on the left side of the steering wheel work. Just not the audio volume (+) and (-) buttons.

I'm thinking that's the case with my steering wheel. I'm hoping it's that simple.

How do I remove the steering wheel trim to paint them?
Thanks

1. Disconnect power
2. Make sure you disconnected power.
3. Pull up the steering wheel center (air bag+horn). This takes some finesse - I found it works best if you have 2 pry tools.
4. Disconnect wires to now loose center section.
5. Using a pry tool you can now pry up the bezel.

I had similar problem, turned out to be the stereo amp back in the trunk...which also controls the FAV buttons.
Replaced it under warranty. Try everything else before having Dealer check this.
