We have a local guy who makes these stainless plates that mount behind the license plate using existing holes. The antenna is also mounted using a quick disconnect so it can be removed when not needed. And the antenna is a NGP (no ground plane) type by Firestick. Our club uses these and everything works well

On a side note, C7's are VERY noisy, RFI wise.

Much worse than C5 or C6s are.....

I have a HAM radio in my C7 and it is tuned to channel 7 (462.7125 MHz) of the GMRS/FRS band. Use it in caravans all the time. License plate is the antenna.

I do the same with my FT-8900 (hence the dual-band antenna in my pic).

Not legal but what the hell

Still not Type Accepted for use in commercial bands so it's not a legal radio to use there.

Like I said however.....

The only places for leather are knee-high boots and whips... I never check the box for expensive leather dashes. Although they look great, they can't stand up to heat like chemically-produced materials.

We have a few folks in our Corvette club that use CBs for our runs. They come in handy when managing 30-40 Corvettes on the highways.

I'm usually "Tail End Charlie" in the convoy as I have a good forward range.

Members of our club have done a similar thing. But it does require a small hole drilled behind the license plate for the cable. Why CBs? As stated they are better for distance with our group rides (last year we drove from Calif. to Toronto and back). Another plus is that CBs are legal for solo drivers in Calif. but FRS are not.

We use Cobra hand held units with NGP antennas. Unfortunately, the Cobra units have something like a 50% failure rate. We've been very disappointed in them.

Actually, no hole need be drilled behind the plate on a C7. The coax is simply routed through the existing slots above the plate. And as far as the Cobra "all in the mic" units go, I hate 'em. I use a small Uniden, plugged into the cig lighter under the center armrest and it works great

And yea, Oregon has a similar law now as well.. handheld radios are illegal to use while moving (by the driver anyway)

What are your thoughts on the hand held CB radios like this one? I was looking for something more portable to use from time to time rather than mounting a large antenna to my car.
