New Custom High Gloss Piano Black Dash and Center Console
Hi Fellow Corvette Fans,
I am changing out my dash and center console where the shifter and cup holders are to a glossy "Piano Black".
For those of you who have taken on the task of doing this and have done the labor yourself, what are some good tips and tricks you can share with me please on how to do it? Have any of you made a video of your work? Where can I find a good detailed video for this?
Thank You!

Be generous with painters tape. Use a couple layers. You will scratch parts during disassembly and reassembly.

I bought an extra dash and a center console. I'm having them painted now. So I will remove the originals and install the new custom painted ones.
Anybody done this themselves? Anybody video how you removed the dash and center console, or anyone have a step by step "do it yourself" video of how to do it?

I don't know if the automatic shift ***** are the same, but I almost broke my manual shift **** when I pulled my center console out.
There's a locking ring between the leather **** and leather boot. You need to pull up on it and then twist to get it to release. Some of the other how-tos I found only said "twist to release".

Just a thought. I had a '11 CTS-V with this "piano gloss" finish on the console area. I'm here to tell you if you obsess over fingerprints/smudges you won't like it. Every time it's touched you leave an oily print/smudge. Also when you try to clean it with "ANY" thing other than a VERY light touch & super soft MF towel will leave fine scratches. It shows every flaw you put on it. Jewelry, fingernails, dragging you sleeves over it, etc. On my CTS it was beautiful for about 6 months. Your money, your car, just wanted to point this out.
That's really, really good information. Thank you for letting me know.
It is already painted, but I will ask about additional coats of clear.

No it only makes it shinier and more noticable. So what. When clean it'll look great

Take your time and go slow when you pull the current center console/dash. There are several dash removal videos on youtube to help. I yanked my console & dash at ~1K miles. Wife thought I was nuts. I'm now doing a stereo upgrade and had to pull the console/dash again.

I strongly recommend clear bra-ing it to protect from scratching. The other member is right. Gloss black looks great when new. But when you start getting micro scratches, game over.

DWillys, wow, you're going to take it apart and reinstall TWICE. Impressive since that stuff was only intended to be put together ONCE!

Here's the piano black console that will go in my C5. I plan to have the painted portion clear-bra'ed before installations as I'm sure it will scratch easily. There are extra coats of clear on it but I am ****.
