Default [R8C] Real World Times From Ordering To Delivery?

We've done R8C in 2003 and 2011, but I'm dotting my i's and crossing my t's in case it's different with the C7. The question: how much time elapsed between the day your ordered your C7 and the day it was actually delivered at the Museum?

All I can offer is my anecdotal experience with a non museum delivery.

Order placed 8/2 but knew couldn't be placed with GM until 8/30 due to color choice. Was placed through 2nd largest dealer - MacMulkin.
Order placed with, and accepted by GM, on 8/30. Knew that they wouldn't start building with my color choice until Oct 1st. Received TPW of 10/8 on 9/11 and car was actually finished being built by 10/15. Shipped on 10/17 and expected to be in Portland next Tuesday (election day 11/6!). I expect courtesy delivery through local deal sometime within the next week to 2 weeks. So for me (including cross country rail trip) was a bit over 3 months.

My understanding is that museum deliveries happen a week or two after the car is built.

I ordered my car (a 2017 Stingray 2LT coupe) around December 9th via Mike Furman at Criswell -- and drove it home on February 1st. It arrived one week earlier than promised, which was good. On a factory order, one should plan for 7 to 9 weeks. Trust me that the anticipation will drive you nuts - especially if you pass another Corvette on the road.

yep, I am going through that the waiting period now. What is good tho is it gives you plenty of time to read and learn all about this car on this forum studying and learning of all the issues that need to be considered. It also gave me the time to learn about my first first mods I want to make and order all the parts and tools I need to do my own servicing. I have 2 more weeks before delivery. In this time, I still need to pay my dealer for the vehicle, obtain auto insurance, make my flight, hotel, and car reservations in Bowling Green, still need to learn more about the Infotainment system, and need to learn how to apply temporary 3M protective film for my journey home from the Corvette Museum. I am ready and eager now to get 'er done. If it were not for this forum I probably would have lost my mind and been committed to a state institution for the Corvette insane.

I ordered mine on July 24 from McMulkin, built on August 28, picked up from Museum on Sept. 15. It was the longest 8 weeks, but I have the exact car that I wanted.

When we picked up our 2012, the Museum would apply protective film before delivery (at an extra charge). I wonder if they still do that.

I checked. It is not offered at the Museum for install. They recommended an installer in Nashville now. I am going to install some 3M "track tape" like film just to get me home. Where I live there is an installer here that really knows his stuff and I have done business with previously.

About six weeks. I just had the museum put on a Novistretch. The convoluted trip home was about 6,000 miles (went east to go west) and not a mark on her when I got home.Saved the radiator and innards from a lot of bugs, too.

I'd like to take a 6,000 mile trip coming home but when I pick up my vehicle November 15 I am concerned about the weather. I have to travel back over the mountains of West Virginia and I am concerned about snow. Can only hope for the best.

That's exactly why our trip was so long. I did not want to tackle I-90 across Montana. I've encountered snow there in May, so we went roundabout to a southern route across the US (Bowling Green to Seattle via Mississippi) and turned north in California. Saw some friends, so it was all good--just long.

Ought to get A/S Michelin on it in Bowling Green before driving in the mountains with snow, ice, cold temps. Your Summer only tires the new car has are too dangerous to drive up there. Better yet, have it shipped to you.

I'll give it a try. I have driven Summer Performance tires in 40 degree temperatures and realize how dangerous it can be. If you get a phone call in mid-November asking you for a tow you know it is me.

Two weeks after vehicle is produced is the earliest you can schedule the car for delivery at the museum.

I ordered mine in the beginning of April 2014 during the big demand. Took three months. Being that this was my first Vette and my first new car in 20 years you can bet that time stands still. Not quite like it does when you have a bad flu, but I just decided to "ignore" it and not go to the website to check for status. A friend texted and said "your car is built"!!

I would still say ordering is the way to go. Mine is not at all common, and I like it that way!
