Used Z51 vs GS values

Melting Slicks
Ok, let's not get carried away!! I think politicians can learn something from the Corvette community. I don't know of any marque car that has such a great mix of different backgrounds and interests. It's a great melting pot and I think we all respect each other and our differences.
For me... it was a budget decision. and at the time my Z51 was the the best deal. Would I have went with a GS if it was a couple grand difference? Hell yea, but I also don't regret my purchase of the current Z51.

The Grand Sport is one hell of an awesome car. It's a no brainer if you ever get to drive one. If you like to drift, not gonna happen. It sticks.

For some of us with immature tendencies, this is a selling point! And for someone who has raced cars for 20 something years, I appreciate the challenge of having to actually drive a little more and find the limits of the car more easily. Today's sports cars and sport sedan are so unbelievably competent and have so much grip, that most really are not driving these cars. They are along for the ride.
As for the traction, my Stingray would get pretty loose unless it is a warm day with warm tires. If it is less than 75 degrees outside you have to feather 1st gear and then the top of 2nd would get squirrelly for me and you have to turn off traction control otherwise it just keeps cutting in all the time. The Grand Sport is different, it is tough to explain until you drive one. The same way it is fun to goose the throttle and lose traction and upset the balance of car (which is fun no doubt) there is also something satisfying about being able to use the all the power available without so much drama. There is a better balance in the Grand Sport than the Stingray or Z06. The Z06 is overpowered for the tires so you have to live on the edge of your seat if you are going to push it. The Grand Sport splits the difference between the Stingray and Z06 by using the base LT1 powertrain combined with FE6 suspension and extra wheel/tire, which in turn makes for a really balanced sport car. If you appreciate that type of balance and driving feel you will love the Grand Sport.

Everything else is the same as the Z51, maybe the brake pads cost a little more for the 6 piston calipers but nothing that will cause concern in a car like this.

I was able to pick up a 16 z51 2LT with MRC and Nav for 42k so decent deals are out there

If the posts on this Forum and the long-term test at one of the car magazines are correct, a GS owner will have to budget for straightening some bent wheels and replacing some others.

[QUOTE=falcon5619;1598304494]I get what you mean. The limits on these cars are so high it is tough to full enjoy them on the street. I actually found my 2016 Miata more fun to hoon around town than a C7 Corvette.[QUOTE]
funny enough, I do want a 2019 Rf but there is no way in hell Im buying a new one when I can buy a C7 for almost the same money. So a C7 for a few years until the 19’s are in the low to mid 20’s.

Luckily I don't need that extra budget so far and you can rule out the magazine to be of any help.

I feel the same. The Miata is fun but you have to compromise a lot. The road noise with the soft top up was pretty rough on the highway. The Miata is worth it at 20-25k but now the RF is mid to upper 30s loaded up and it becomes tough to justify.

I am not convinced all these GS and Z06 wheels bend just by looking at them funny. I think it has a lot to do with the type of roads you deal with where you live and the sheer nature of running a 335x25 profile run flat tire. If you are hitting potholes with a rim and tire like this then yes they are going to bend. The other consideration is the new MRC calibration update. With the lates update Tour mode in the GS soaks up the bumps just as good as my base Stingray suspension did, which may also help prevent damage to wheels on crappy pavement.
