Default C6 to C7

Hopefully I can get some advice on my current need (want) to upgrade from my 2008 C6.

Current car:
2008 6.2L M6, 3LT pkg, Crystal Red Metallic

Looking for:
2017+ Grand Sport 2/3LT pkg
Price: $50K

So I've seen the threads on the Ron Fellows Corvette racing school cars- and there's one dealership (DC Motors) that gets GS 3LT Z07 ($90K+ sticker) that are going for around $60K (The 2017s are high 50's while the 2018's are low 60's). The mileages all vary from 7k-12k There is no power train warranty but they were talking about an aftermarket one for around $3K.

Now I understand that is a good deal (if the car doesnt run into issues which is a huge gamble) but I've been searching cargurus, autotrader, craigslist, dealerships for months now and I am starting to see the GS price drop.

-Are aftermarket warranties legitimate?
-Am I too early into the secondary market at 50K for a used GS?
-I have a 3rd party looking into selling my car AND for grand sports around 50K, I know that third parties always want a % but what do I care if I can get the price I was looking for, right?
-is a GS 2LT for $50K with 13k miles (general idea, with kbb mileage) worth it over the GM Driving School fully loaded GS's?

thanks for reading, really am starting to chomp at the bit for the C7 GS.

I would avoid the 3LT trim due to the possible dashboard problems.
A lot of folks buy the GMEPP warranty that is sold by Dennis Fitchner here on the Forum. I did, and I trust it over any of the aftermarket warranties.

I seriously question the validity of an aftermarket warranty that would actually cover the power train of a vehicle that GM has placed a power train warranty block on.

He will not be able to purchase the warranty from Dennis because he lives in California.

I'd say if you can find a GS, 2lt for $50k, that's a dang good deal...

Unfortunately, used car prices on most C7 are not making for great deals - as contrasted with buying new.

I'd strenuously advise that you opt for an in-stock 2017 HEAVILY DISCOUNTED C7, versus trying to find a used one.

The 3LT is definitely worth pursuing. I love mine! My new 2017 heavily loaded AND DISCOUNTED 3LT, was the best new C7, that I could have ever made a deal on.

Very glad I opted for the 3LT !!

1. D c Motors. In Orange County? A lot of their cars are from either Ron Fellows or Willow Springs and are beat to...well, would you really want a car that's been rev'd up to 6000 every single day, all day, by people that may not even be used to a stick? That's why they sell them after 6-7000 miles. (They will tell you where they get them themselves before you buy it.)
2. I traded in my C6 for a 2017 GS 3LT last December at Courtesy Chevrolet down in SD. $80K retail got it for $67K minus $21K for my 2006 C6 Z06. Probably could've gotten more on the trade-in had I sold it to CarMax, but I was in a hurry that day. LOL.
3. I don't know how long it takes for the dashboard t have problems, but mine is fine and its build date was Feb 2017, so almost 2 years. I think they may have figured out the glue issue by 2017 but maybe I'm just lucky.
4. I got a warranty from Courtesy, but it wasn't a GMPP. So maybe it was "after market" but they'll stand behind it.
5. This was my first new car, ever. And I"m not young. Always bought used. But this was worth it. I recommend stretching if at all possible.
6. Good luck. Whatever you get, you'll be blown away by the difference between a C6 and C7 if you haven't already figured that out

I plan on jumping from my C5 Z06 to a C7. I test drove a 2018 Z06 it was a blast. But I’m going for a new Grand Sport. That is what I plan on doing. New one.

Your last q. first, I'd say yes; a $50K GS vs. a "performance driving schl." car is worth it. Plus, I doubt if you can get either of the GM and former GM extended warranties on a car that now has no, or a blocked powertrain warranty (GMPP-now Ally or GMEPP). In other words, "you have to have one, to get one."

Of course, some would say I like being a little safe, instead of shelling out later and being sorry. You'll have to decide on whether you like rolling the dice but whether it's time or mileage, I'd not get or bet on a long life with no problems from a "school" car.

I also would have urged caution about Hertz rental Corvettes being sold as used cars altho at least one person had a flawless one that she used for about 200K added miles on top of the 50K miles it came with. But that's an example of one. And for "my" same reasons, depending on where you are in your life, I wouldn't stretch all you can to get a new '17 car, or pay more than you can reasonably afford for an '18 or '19. No one knows the future of our economy and when it might take a dramatic turn.

That said, altho several/many have had 3LT leather come apart from the dash and there is no consistent solution (or one consistently paid for by GM), if you want it, I'd say you can get it w/o too much worry. Sure, it may happen but I'd say local car upholstery shops can fix it. And the price isn't going to be the cost of an engine or an e-diff.

I don't know if this will happen but whenever the C8 is finally announced, it may affect the prices of C7s. Some would say they will go down in price, and some say up. Who knows? But generally, prices tend to go down when a new gen is announced, as they will anyway. In that case, patience in buying is a virtue.

Raise you budget to the mid to upper 50s and you will find one in less than a couple of months that's not been beaten to death. Most warranty companies dont warranty vehicles with coided factory warranties btw....at least none that I know of

My dentist bought a brand new c7 grand sport a year ago from les stanford for 56888 although it was a 1 lt. He flew in and drove it home.

best 10 hour drive he ever had over the weekend. Its a year later and he is still smiling...

id spend 7 grand more than target and get a 1LT...

if you have to have 2lt then just spemd a few more grand and get one..

brzo app on apple prodicts is awesome for narrowing down across the country the exact car for sale on craigslist..

I did the search for you on brzo and found only one...go figure...lol

https://batonrouge.craigslist.org/cto/6746002467.html

its an 8 speed 2 lt ..call the dealer and offer them 50.

fly in and drive it home if you want a black auto?

id buy a brand new 1LT manual for the sa,e price but thats me..

otherwise wait until january and see all the grand sports and z06 s listed by dealers brand new...

usually the final year unit sales at a dealer determines how many new generation in this case c8 s they get allocated so the discounts usually are pretty substancial.

Cars dot com and Auto Trader dot com & Car Gurus are probably the best ways to search used cars. Carmax, might have what you want too. Pretty easy to shop that way.

Don't forget Costco, which has deals with dealerships to provide good prices and now sponsors used cars as well.

I found my 2016 Z51 3LT 7M 1300 miles for $53K, Feb 2017. I had been looking for about 6 months online, and by fluke, found this one in my backyard - at a local dealership during an oil change. Granted it isn't a GS, but it was basically a brand new car, at the price you're looking at. I think it may be more challenging finding a GS for this price, but just be diligent, don't get discouraged, and look everywhere. Personally, I wouldn't look at a racing school car, but that's just me. There are so many vettes that change hands at super low miles because owner decides they want something else / better that their car doesn't have.

Found my '17 GS, 2lt, local one owner with 1800 miles at a BMW dealer for $57,200. My area tends to put a premium on Corvettes (Pacific NW).
Deals are out there... And going even lower now that winter is coming (depending on where you are).

I've been watching the GM corporate vettes and they are hitting the lowest numbers. You should really start looking now at used 2019's, there has been everything from stingrays up to 3zr zr1's. These cars, for the most part, have 0 to 15k miles and can be had CPO for 20%+ off of original MSRP.

I don't think you will find many in that trim for 50k. Maybe mid to upper 50s.

i saw that too from corvetteblogger, I dont really care the year (2017+) if the miles are the same. I am actually not seeing too many grand sports up for sale, im interested in under 15K (sweet spot IMO) and around $50K.. i see that coming very soon with the C8 coming, low sales and season.

I just picked up a 2017 GS M7 Z07 1LT with 14.5k miles for $51.9k. Only thing it needed was tires and MRC update. Spent $2.5k more for the new Super Sport ZPs and MRC update so I'm into it for just under $54.5k which is just under the average price for that car right now. It's black on black with red seats. Did a nationwide search in the morning in all the car sale sites. Found it on Cars .com in Houston, made a deal over the phone, flew in from New Orleans the same day, and drove it home that night. Absolutely love it!!!
