Advice before buying a 2017 Collectors Edition Grand Sport Callaway
Hello from Dubai fellas!
It's been a while.
So- conundrum / confusion after some sleuthing.
The dealer here is offering me a low mileage (5.5k) 2017 Grand Sport Z07 that he claims is a collectors ed that they sent back to Callaway for a conversion. Would they change the VIN for a conversion? It would make sense that they would but I just want to triple check with you guys.
It matches the Collectors Ed Identification and I checked the registry (which is awesome by the way) and it was in fact sent to the middle east (to Dubai.) (H5300327) - is this enough to identify that it is in fact one of the 2017 collectors edition cars? They're asking for 93k USD for it and at 5.5k miles I think its a pretty sweet deal.
VIN: 1G1Y92D73H5300327 (photo attached also.)
And photos of the car:

The dash plaque says number 327/1000. But the VIN isn't matching the registry. Don't know where else to check...

Let me check some records I have. The VINs in the registry I calculated for the most part, but I could have the export ones wrong I suppose because they do throw a 9 in there for export. I have some other offline documents though that I can reference and have a source I can check with to confirm for you.

I had 3 different Callaway's, you will not be disappointed. A GM built car with refinement (HP) added by Callaway. Price is high but I see your location so that might be fair. Offer 85.
Callaway's are awesome machines. Good luck on your decision making.

I have the detail on 327, looks like my VIN formula is wrong for the export cars. The sheet I have shows the VIN for 327 as 1G1Y92D73H5300327, which matches what you're seeing. I'll need to go through all the export ones at some point and validate those with the sheets that I have. Sorry about the confusion, but this does seem legit from what I'm seeing here.
If you want to PM your email address to me, I can scan this and send it to you if you'd like.

Thank you for that - I’m really excited to bring that machine home. Did a lot of research on the conversion too & that Callaway work is art.
Re price / they paid close to 110k USD for the car including taxes here (prior to the callaway conversion - still unsure how much that cost on the GS.) so if I walk away with it for 90k I’m over the moon-

The conversion cost in the US for a GS is $17,995, but please note, like other commodities overseas, this is going to be different. I remember when your car was built, and the cost is higher when new due to many factors in the export market. I did not see the invoice from Liberty, the originating dealer, so do not know what they ultimately charged when new. It's a gorgeous and unique car. Good to see it online.

Lets throw out the cost of the conversion for right now. I've been tracking used GSCE's to a degree. This particular one had an MSRP originally of ~$96k. Used ones seem to be going in the range of 25-35% under original MSRP. If you take a 30% number as a target, you're looking at $67,200. If you were to buy a used one for that price, then have Callaway do the conversion @ $18k, you're up to $85,200. Yes, it is unique, but in the US it may be a little high. That said, the options in Dubai and prices there are definitely different....

So at 96k+18k+4k for shipping thats 118,000 before a dealer markup. My buddy works for GM here and he said that car was retailing at AED 520,000 (141K USD!) so I'm paying 88k for it + 5k in taxes. Can't wait to see the markup on the C8

I'll post photos when I do (hopefully in the next 2 weeks,) & until then I'm just like a kid the night before Christmas (but like a Bill Murray Christmas version of Groundhog Day)

I know how you feel. I was like that the night before I flew out to pick up my 2019 Grand Sport at the MacMaulkin Corvette dealer here in the states. That was a bad night of sleep but very exciting times. There's nothing like it.
