Default Serious question from a 2014 Z51 3LT owner.... Next car?!?!

Love the look of the Grand Sport and the Z06.... but.... I need an automatic, and seriously concerned with the reliability of the A8 over the A6, and now the horror stories from the cracked/bent rims?! And the Z06 overheating....

Honestly seems like crazily enough the 14's are more reliable than that of the 14+ autos?! Terribly frustrating because I ultimately would like to get a newer Z06 or Grand Sport.

Crazy idea. Have a wide body kit put on your 2014. You would basically then have a GS

The A8 is reliable if you install the $199 Range Technology Range AFM Disabler

2017 and later Z06s got improved cooling for track use. My understanding is none of the Z06s would overheat for typical street use. The A8 has been plagued with the torque converter shudder issue since it came out across all GM vehicles that use it (Colorados, Sierras, Camaros, etc.) Supposedly, a more permanent fix is coming this spring otherwise select the M7. As for the bent rims, I just got a GS so time will tell but I bought the wheel and tire policy to help if this becomes an issue.

Nobody needs an automatic. Alex Zanardi lost both legs and can still drive a manual. Just saying.

But if your heart is set on a slushbox auto. Just buy one, and get an extended warranty that will specifically cover it. Yes you see some problems, but GM builds about 40K Corvettes a year (plus who knows how many A8's in other cars), with about a 70% auto take rate... that's really a very small percentage of problems.

If you can, wait for the c8. I would hope that gm addresses the a8 issue with a new generation car.

i would not buy a new vette now when in a yr or less it will be old news.

I have a A6 2014 just loved the car so much I got one. Then the z06 came out & here we go again but I did what one of the guys above said I just got GM body panels & made it a yes z06. Then I put a A/A TI unit on it & mod the crap out of it. But it will now for sure out run any stock z06 with no problems plus I love the car even more.

The only regret is buying in 2014 BEFORE the price went down on them I paid almost retail on the car. Right after that price drop & even for some good fin on them.. I will keep my 2014 but going to look at the c8 on a loaded up one with every item that is made for it like the 2014.. Robert

Here's your fix...buy the GS and put Z06 wheels/tires on it. You're welcome...

I'm waiting to see what we get with the mid-engine car.

Get a manual transmission Grand Sport, but be watchful for pot holes, those wheels tend to bend

As long as the C7 you buy is under factory warranty you're good to go.

in the interim waiting for the c8, take a look at the jag sports model. while overpriced to the vette, it's unpopularity has made great deals on lot queens affordable, probably better than the great 2017 c7 clearance last year. Why jag? they get it: a technologically sophisticated sports car THAT JAG OFFERS " 2016 and newer vehicles Jaguar EliteCare, our best in class, 5-year/60,000-mile coverage, which includes a New Vehicle Limited Warranty, complimentary scheduled maintenance and roadside assistance, plus the extraordinary Jaguar InControl® Remote and Protect™ technology."

While GM is revising their warranty fixes on A8 to limit them to NO REPLACEMENT, just flush and filling them with thicker and thicker tranny fluid to wait out the warranty, Jaguar is giving the jag owner a security blanket for almost twice as long as GM on everything and every maintenance included!

rims, I am using cheap chinese replica Z06 rims ($700 for four on Ebay) on my C7 with my new AS3 + all seasons. no bent rims on mean pot-hole filled public roads. The car stays in MRC - Tour mode. if I put it into billiard table smooth track mode, and expected it to survive driving on rough as a cob city streets....then why complain when the wheel is knocked skee-wad by a pot hole? a pot hole at speed has the same effect as a sledge hammer on an aluminum rim, especially one in which the driver has selected "steel strut" for the compliance of the magnetic shock absorber.

2014, a golden age for the c7 vette. but it won't stay that way. Electric gremlins will start soaking your wallet like nobody's business. A 2014 faulty sulphur-coated fuel sending unit $3,000 fix reported here recently . ouch.

Even Ferrari is givng better warranty than GM: Ferrari Warranty. Every new Ferrari has a three year/unlimited mileage factory warranty and a seven-year free maintenance program from the date of purchase. The three-year factory warranty can be extended by two years with bumper-to-bumper coverage.

My 17 c7 has been perfect. I hope it stays that way. but three weeks ago I popped into a Hertz 2018 Chevy Malibu with 36,440 miles on the odo. Still looked good. but five miles into the rental the check engine light went on and the drivers screen said "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" WTF!! on a Malibu? Chebby got some real problems when they can't make their bread and butter as reliable as a toaster, too many other car companies can.

i'd give you a wave off from another Chebby until GM starts treating their owners like they should and offers no-questions warranties, with reasonably-priced extensions to keep loyal fans motoring AND starts focusing on long term reliability of the product. 3 laps around the Nurburgring does nothing to solve a faulty gas tank supplier who's product fails in 4 years time, or dying fan switch controller manufacturer, or fuel sending unit supplier. and don't EVEN get the 3lt guys started on the upholstery glue supplier! But with a new C8 waiting in the wings to be unveiled, the C7 is toast for product improvement from GM: WYSIWYG.

Just get a Z they've got the stronger transmission and never fail. They only die in the Stingray. But if I were you I'd be looking at the Merc S63 AWD coupe.

OP: All the cracked rims may be the result of driving in Track suspension mode on public streets and highways. Was warned of this to not drive in Track for that reason before leaving the Chev. dealer when buying my new C7 with MSRC.
