Ready for another radar detector, opinions?
I am looking for a radar detector for my C7 and wondering what everyone thinks is best. I really don’t care much about price etc, but far more interested in what is the best. Been looking at Escort 360c or the Uniden R3. My car does not have WiFi so I can’t use that part of it. I don’t like the Max 360 because I looks like a friggin boat weighing over a pound or so. Valentines remind me of something built in someone’s basement in 1981, though I realize they have a great rep. Doesn’t seem to.be any other choices on the high end market unless I’m missing something. Any opinions?

I'm using the r3 in front, and I'm pretty happy with it.
I was getting laser falses once it got hot, but I just updated it to the new firmware and that seems to have stopped.
The best detector is sort of personal preference. How fast are you going to drive ?
Most people can get by using Waze.

why not just look at the dozens of recent threads on the topic?

After 30 years with a badge, I know enough about radar that I find the Valentine arrows extremely valuable. There is also a dongle you can use to get additional features on the Valentine from you cellphone.
There is no single best detector, each has their individual advantages and disadvantages. Pick what works best for you.

I like the Escort Passport 9500 but my next one may be the Uniden R3 based on the reviews I have read.

Get the settings right on the r3 and its better than everything else.
You still get k-band falses from traffic flow sensors, but who cares.
Remember, only Waze can save you from instant on, maybe; and nothing can save you if you catch up to a moving police car at night.

I highly recommend the V1 and if you have Android getting the jBV1 app and setting custom sweeps. It really is top of the line and paired with the app virtually unbeatable. I also recommend getting the TMG laser jammer. Best bang for the buck and the hot new thing.

I haven't heard anything about TMG but the price looks damn good compared to ALP.

I'll let you have my 9500ix (complete with case and all factory supplied accessories) for $200. PM if interested
Works perfectly but excess to my needs

Yeah but laser seems to be used in high density metropolitan areas where speeding is pretty much useless. Don't get me wrong here. I'm all about counter measures and ran ALP jammers for a period of time, but its not like you can cruise at 100 in the places where cops are using laser, and you aren't helping yourself by blasting up to whatever speed for ten seconds, then letting off because of traffic.

have this and love it. Works for our stationary cams and the laser defense is awesome.

If you get a short but not feeble radar hit, it's probably instant on up ahead. If you have arrows and can verify that it's ahead instead of behind or on the side, that's another clue. If you get a series of hits, each one a little stronger, then it's almost guaranteed to be instant on up ahead.
This technique works best when you can tail another car and let him trip the radar, my experience is that will save you about 90% of the time. Running without a dedicated "scout" and without Waze, you're down to maybe 50%. But still much better than nothing.

Actually, a good detector can often (but not always) save you from instant on; I've done it many times.
