Hey Ant, I want to thank you for a good laugh this morning. We've all done stuff that, in hindsight, we wish we could retract. All of us. You put a smile on my face - thank you for that!! :-)

Don't sweat it. There is a lot going on on the dashboard of these c7's. If you think it is bad now, wait till you start scrolling through all the different dash configurations!

Don't be too hard on yourself. I did the same thing. Picked up my car new from dealer, went to put gas in and it was already full. Every other gas gauge I've had was the opposite. I felt like an idiot for two minutes that day.

Just claim your Vette Forum was hacked.

In defense of the OP. when I first got my C-7, I thought e gauge was backward too. I've never had a car that reads the way this Vette does . It seems backward, but no big deal.

I honestly never even noticed the fuel gage was opposite to most cars until this thread. It's backwards to what my C6 was, but it's positioning is similar to how the fuel gage in my Civic is:

OP, I'm at the age now that I have to think long and hard about on which side to pull up to the pump, as my DD and Corvette filler necks are on opposite sides. So your confusion is entirely understandable!

Whether it sweeps left or right E is always on the bottom. A few vehicles have a horizontal layout where there is no "bottom" and that is confusing.
Reading around here you'll find one of the C7's random issues is a sticky fuel gauge sender, so having a stuck or seemingly faulty gauge is a very real possibility. You'll see people recommend running a few bottles of Techron thru the system occasionally to keep this from happening.
To be safe I always reset Trip A when I fill up and know based on my daily commute how many miles I can go. Normally its about 300 miles based on a 20 mpg avg. On the highway my range is about 450 miles while getting 28 mpg.

Here's a tip. Look at the little fuel tank logo by the needle. There is an arrow pointing to which side the filler is on. Most cars have this.

That's even more confusing because at first glance all black, like a hole = empty right? Nope! A simple F and E is best, but only in English speaking markets, thus the reason the exports are different. I first saw the 1 and 0 style when I got a VW many years ago, so I just assumed it was a German thing but its likely designed to get around the language barrier. Actually on my VW it was 1/1 at full, then 1/2, then nothing but a red hash at empty.
