I have offered to pay for the correct part and shipping and to pay for shipping for the incorrect part (new, unopened) back to him if he will refund my first payment. He has agreed to refund my money for the item, but not the shipping.

My contention is that I will be paying shipping for four items being shipped, while only three are actually being shipped.

1. I payed him for shipping the original item.
2. I will pay to ship the original item back, unopened, new.
3. I will pay for a new, correct item, and it's shipping.
4. Why do I not get a refund on the original item and it's shipping cost. I already paid for the shipping costs, he didn't. Why shouldn't I get a refund on the cost of the original item's shipping cost, which I already paid?

Please tell me I'm wrong and why?

You are wrong. You paid for shipping to you then you paid for shipping back to them. The seller does not get any money for this as he had to pay for shipping. Now with the correct part you are paying the seller for shipping again. I don't see the problem. Suck it up and stop being a tool and pay the shipping.

Why would you think you get a refund on the shipping the first time? It's not like the seller is going to get a refund from the shipping company because you ordered the wrong part. I don't see why you are so hung up on this. YOU are wrong.

What are you talking about? You paid shipping to you the first time. Then you paid shipping back to the seller. Now you pay shipping from seller the second time for the right part. That is THREE shipping fees. Where do you get that you are paying four times?

If he shipped the items separately, you don't get your shipping back on the item that you are returning.

If he shipped all the items in one shipment, you should get the first shipping charge refunded unless he just charged you the difference for the new shipping total.

Very few vendors will pay for return shipping, especially especially if it was not through their mistake. Sorry, I think you will be on the hook for this one.

Hmm, the shipper doesn't have any shipping money, they gave it to say UPS to ship the item! Granted the OP paid perhaps he should ask UPS to give it back!

The supplier is out the money. In my current Internet business I have a "no restocking charge policy" (different then my former life, where we had a 15% restocking charge!) Yep the product may be new but often the package may get damaged in shipment and has to be reboxed and in a large business takes handling effort. In any case a 15% restocking charge was common in our industry.

Now I have a fixed shipping amount automatically added to an order. I pay UPS to ship. The customer wants to return, which we accept "at no extra restocking charge" but I already paid UPS. Now they order the correct product and our billing system will add shipping as it should because I have to pay UPS again.

OK, the OP has admitted he was wrong (see post 33). Time to stop jumping on him.
