Fix/replace windshield
Hey Guys,
On a drive a rock hit my windshield and chip it. It hasn't cracked yet, but i want to get ahead of it. I don't have many options for windshield repair out here in the middle of no where, jasper, in. So if i can't seal it, I will replace. Any ideas if i need a special windshield as I do have the HUD.
Thanks.

Go to the dealer and get the HUD windshield installed.

Should cost nothing, your insurance should cover it.

I don't know about the front windshield, but a guy I know just had to have his rear glass replaced due to vandalism. Factory glass was $1,150. (aftermarket was $450)
Good luck.
Good luck.

if you have glass coverage, your insurance co may cover it at no charge to you.
If there is a safelite facility around, they may be able to repair a chip.
When I had mine replaced (cracked), safelite charged the insurance co just under 800 for OEM GM HUD glass. My cost was zero, and they did all the paperwork.
Dealer cost was about 950, IIRC, but I would have been on the hook for the difference.
Dealers here sublet glass work to safelite, BTW.

Most insurance companies will repair a chip at no cost...that’s where I’d start. If it’s too big for a fill, then ok I guess you’re stuck. Personally, replacing the glass would be my last resort.

I do have glass coverage under comprehensive but I also have a $500 deductible. Someday when I can't put up with all the sand pitting I'll bit the bullet and have it replaced.

To my surprise, this isn't the case anymore; I just had a rock ding filled and found out most insurance companies have dropped the free ding fixes....including my State Farm policy. I did check on a new windshield; $950 installed through Caliber Collision (OEM HUD glass), and $1100 plus install from a local glass shop.

Bottom line, always check with your agent.. common sense doesn't seem to rule!

Didn't even know there was an option for that. What did you use/do?
