49 Murc was the first car i bought with my own money, $125.
This 46 HI truck was what i learned on, my grandfathers farm truck, he gave it to me when i got out of the service.
Really hated to sell it off but was relocating for work.

My brother and I pooled our money and bought a green '70 Olds Cutlass S in 1974. If I remember correctly we paid $1,500. The car was in excellent condition and we thought we were so cool. We lived in the city of Chicago and insurance for us was crazy even though we got the "good student" discount. I still think fondly of this car as the '70-'72 Cutlass is still my favorite car. Here is a picture of a similar car.

17 years old, back in 1959, 1953 Ford 2 door sedan that I installed a 301 cu in(283 bored 1/8") Chevy V8 with a Duntov cam and 1/8" oversize valves with fully ported runners., Chevy 1/2 ton truck 3 speed transmission with a 1957 Thunderbird floor shifter.
Did all the work myself in my Mom's back yard over the winter(and had snow on the ground).
It was pretty quick for the times.
As a side note, my 65 year old cousin still has her first car, a 55 Chevy Bel Air 2 door hardtop.

1982 Black Recaro Trans Am I bought in 1984 the day I graduated from high school. Turned out to be a total POS, and I said I’d never have another black car. Having a nice garage to keep my current black beauty really helps!

My first was an old '52 Crosley station wagon. It had 26.5 hp out of a 44 ci overhead cam engine and a crashbox three speed tranny. For those who wonder, that's one with NO synchronizers, and with such a mighty engine (NOT) downshifts were done often, requiring double clutching.
From developing that skill, I have always double clutched on downshifts with the six Vettes I've had, including my '67 now. (My C7 is auto, my first ever.) Many years ago I had friends with me in my '59 Chevy with column shift. I mentioned shifting into first while moving and was informed that it could NOT be done. I did it several times that day and they were impressed.
Other kids messed with the Crosley, sometimes turning it in a parking space, so I added a Model T coil, which has a buzzer interrupter and will generate continuous spark. I soldered a wire on the spark terminal and let it drag. When I switched it on when parked, it would give a shock to anyone outside who touched the car. No effect inside. (To enter when it was turned on, I'd jump on the back and open the back door to get in.)

My first car was also my Dad's first new car, and I still have it. It turned 50 in Oct! If you actually watch it, I recommend skipping through the carb linkage stuff unless you car about progressive linkage on Holley EFI!

By technicality, my first car was a 1985 Dodge Aries, which my grandfather handed down to me during my college years. However, inside of about 6-8 weeks, one of his friends totaled his main vehicle. That's another story, but I returned the Aries back to my granddad as he needed a the car more than I did. A little over 2 years later I ended up getting a new car over at Bruce Campbell Dodge (if any Michiganders remember that place); a 1997 Dodge Neon. I believe the color was Emerald Green Metallic.
Come to think of it, I don't think you truly live in the Detroit area without getting at least one car from a dealership on Telegraph Road. I'm 3 out of 4 in that regard.

My first car was a '65 Impala hardtop --- 283/2-bbl, 3-speed on the column, bench seats, AM radio, Desert Tan, I believe. It was the first new car that my dad ordered from the factory. He wanted that car so bad that he got it without A/C, tinted windows, and wheel covers --- he couldn't afford them. I learned to drive in that car and Dad gave it to me as a graduation present my senior year to drive to school. I got $50 on trade-in to buy a '73 Monte Carlo Landau with swivel buckets, automatic, and COLD A/C two years later.
Yes, I wished I still had them both.

HAHA...yes I had the swivel seats...and 8 track tape player of course. Since Lincoln is bringing back suicide doors can the return of swivel seats be far behind?
