I will continue to leave mine in the 1/2 >3/4 range as I have always done with no issues.
I believe the entire "winter storage prep thing" is greatly over emphasized since most of us who do store our cars over the winter only do so for 3>4 months.
Plug your battery up to a tender and call it a day and stop worrying about the rest.

Now if storing your car for year or more then you need to take some precautions and worrying about things such as how much fuel is left in your tank.

Well I guess if the car is under warranty and the sender goes wonky, it'll be on GM's dime to fix it.

Is humidity a contributing factor? There are too many intangibles to factor into the equation, the best course of action might be to follow the GM recommendation.
I was able to drive our new `19 GS for about 100 miles earlier this week (up to 143 miles ), but we filled the tank before that run. So now we have 7/8 in the tank. We are lucky in that we do have several days each month in the winter when we can drive the car. Now I have two goals: reach the 500 mile break-in and get the tank level down to 1/4.

Don't worry about it for this winter. Pick it up next winter. If this was such a problem for over 6yrs of the model, we'd hear about it by now.

So the recommendation was made by GM engineering. Where is the bulletin or official letter to the rest of the Corvette world (which is much bigger than the CF world)? If this was such a big deal, why hasn't there been any official notice to owners of record?

My garage is 72f right now. I always fill my car before I return home. Like has been mentioned is extreme cold amd freeze thaw cycles more of a culprit? If so? I'm good.

thanks OP.

Better yet, don't worry about it at all. Seems the C7 community thrives on something to worry about.

And next year it will be the opposite.

not being submerged in fuel leaves it open for corrosion lol...watch

In the article accompanying the video: "Paul highlights Chevrolet engineering’s recommendations for storing C5, C6 and C7 Corvettes with only a quarter tank of gas."

Where is this recommendation published?

I would like to see a closeup of the card he speaks of and points to from a distance. Is the resistive surface and contact pointer exposed to the fuel. Why hasn't engineering designed the module to be a sealed unit so the fuel cannot touch the surfaces claimed to be susceptible to fuel sulfur?

A local GM ASEP Instructor continues to recommend storage with a full tank.

I guess if we keep our tanks 1/2 full we will be 50% right either way.

Good point about regions. I also wonder about gasoline: even in a sealed system, isn't there some water in the gas? Does/will this have any effect or is it solution or too small to matter? Questions only, not making a statement on value of the vid/article.

One last question: if this has been a problem for the '97 C5 thru today, why is this just coming to light and being recommended? Half the country is in the "cold belt" and stores their cars, and many in the rest of the country don't use their Corvettes all that much which means it may have de facto storage during the best of weather.

Another really good reason NOT to store your car with a full tank of gas in it over the winter, is that the fuel will be stale come Spring. You will have to drive your car with old additives that will have deteriorated for a couple of hundred miles instead of just a few miles to the nearest gas station where you can add fresh fuel. I store my cars with as little fuel as possible and I don't worry about condensation because I add some fuel preservative to address that.

The old idea that storing a car with a full tank of fuel will keep the tank from getting moisture is wrong as this article points out. The newer Corvettes ( C5,6,&7 ) have a CLOSED system which prevents moisture from entering the tank. I would recommend that you store your car with minimum fuel & use a fuel stabilizer to ensure no problems during the winter

Full tank every year since 1998. 2C5s, a C6, and 2 C7s. No problems with fuel gauges and no problems in the spring after each 6 months of storage. Using Top Tier premium with Stabil all the time. Maybe fuel quality is the issue.
