C7 of Year Finalist (performance mods) 2019
Driven both cars and honestly really like the GTR. Cabin is excellent and I actually like the body styling. They drive entirely different. If you need a back seat or plan on driving year around and deal with snow the GTR wins hands down. But there is a huge price difference! GTR was on my short list before I bought my 2015 3lt z51 vette, but just couldn’t justify the huge price jump to go with the GTR and ended up going with the z51 over the z06 due to daily driving concerns and the lack of all season tires availability for the z06 as i’m A daily driver that does deal with snow. I supercharged my z51 which made it faster than both my other choices at a much lower cost.

I'm almost positive that most of the responders have never driven a GTR. Once you have, that car will blow your mind. I love the R34 to be honest. There is something about that style I love. The current model R35 (GTR) is still the Godzilla of the roads that other manufacturers try to find an answer for. It handles better and is faster than the Z06. You've already owned vettes... try something new but the Nismo will cost you.

Looking at the 2019 GT-R on the Nissan site, they do not start at $151k. The Nismo version is $175k, but the "base" model starts at $99k. It's actually a nice looking vehicle. Sort of resembles the newer Mustangs. Of course I'll get flamed for my remarks, but I am a performance car enthusiast. I admire any vehicle that will scare the crap out of me. Besides, getting nearly 600 HP and TQ out of a 6-cylinder is no easy task. I'll bet that it's forged wheels don't bend, nor does it overheat like the Z06, nor does it have converter problems in the automatic transmissions. Not knocking the 'Vette, because I own one. Trashing another vehicle just because (fill in the blank) is rather close-minded. Just my opinion. I hope none of you ever get spanked by one...

GTR unless the top dog does zero for me.
I remember when the C6 ZR1 came out when I first watched one run at the track..... again that was the debut of the C6 ZR1..... get the point?

There are quite a few elements involved in car choice aside from which is faster, smoother, or has the fanciest goodies. I’ve got a bit of nostalgic reason to own Corvettes. I’m old, and I remember each era of my life by both the dogs and Corvette’s that have filled my years. When I was 16, my dog Pal was with me until I joined the Army, my ’58 C-1 marked the same years and my entrance into adulthood. A lot of my social time is centered around the Corvette now, and the people my age who enjoy their cars. Once a month or so we drive around and go out to eat, a few of us will track our cars and enjoy teasing each other about how fast we are.
So, a GTR (even if it was a “better” car) wouldn’t work for me. I honestly doubt a C-8 will either (although I may grow into it if I live long enough). For me, the Corvette is a part of my social life and my history. I want a big engine, rear wheel drive, lots of roar, and for it to be a little “edgy” under full throttle. The GTR won’t handle those chores for me; although it certainly may for you. All that said, I’d encourage you to go to whatever lengths necessary to drive a GTR before making your decision. You’ll pay a hell of a financial price if you decide (after purchase) it’s not the car for you.
Good luck!

The GTR is an awesome car. i have been looking it as one of my next possibilities. Currently I have a 16 Z51 and it's kind of problem ridden with the transmission and kinda cheap build quality for the price. The GTR has much better tech, better build quality and actually has a twin clutch transmission. Corvette seems to be a $40K car that they charge 70k+ for bc of the name plate.

I own my third Corvette at the moment (2015 Z51 package 3LT). Due to a recent collision, I am looking to purchase a new car soon. I have narrowed the field to two cars, a new 2019 Z06 and a new 2019 Nissan GTR. The funny thing is I haven't driven either of them yet. I know I would love the Z06, but the GTR has always been kind of a dream car of mine. I know they are two different animals, but my main question(s) is; Do any of you on this forum own one? Have you ever owned one? Have you ever driven one? There is not a new 2019 GTR within 1,000 miles of me right now but the local dealer said they could get one for me in the color I want. Please help with your experience and input.. Thanks!

I think you answered your own question above. Get the GTR. Try something different. You said yourself you're on your 3rd Vette. If you end up not liking the GTR you can always sell it & buy a Z06. I'm saying this as a current Z06 owner but more importantly as a gear head/car guy. If I could afford it I'd have a warehouse full of every kind of exotic, high performance sports car/muscle car (modern & classics) etc...etc...If you have the opportunity to get a GTR and you've always wanted one then I say get it. Life is short.

There is a head to head comparison on you tube, those drivers picked the GTR the AWD is an advantage for the gtr price might determine your choice as the GTR starts at $151k and the Vette around $80 but equipped will be around $102k still a savings of $49k. Your money your choice
I owned a 2013 GTR for a couple of years and thought it was a fun car. It isn't as common as all of the corvettes you will see around and definitely comes with the Godzilla mystique and exclusivity all its own. It will beat most z06s on the street from a dig and is very consistent. With the AWD and DCT all you have to do is mash the go pedal and it takes off. I got bored of mine because I didn't really like the DCT (not very engaging) and decided to get back into a manual sports car. Both cars have huge modification potential and aftermarket parts are everywhere. You will be able to save money with the z06 since there are so many of them and most dealers will take a significant amount of money off MSRP. In my opinion a new GTR is overpriced and if you decided to get one I would get a 2017 or 2018 (newest body refresh). You cant go wrong with either choice.
