My question is why would you put a deposit down on a car without a signed contract? Sounds to me you left yourself wide open and have no one to blame but yourself if they do not refund the money.
That said, if they are a stand up dealer and no order was submitted to Bowling Green (in other words you were buying a car from current dealer inventory) they should refund the money.

Is my CC bank the only one that sends a text message when they see a large transaction, giving me the opportunity to decline the charge before they accept it?

I called my CC and they can’t do much until it posts to my account. At that point I can file a dispute. They recommend that I call the dealership management directly and try to obtain a refund first. I guess the lesson here is don’t give a deposit of any kind without a signed receipt or contract stating terms.
