Default How much did this moron cost me?

I haven’t really driven my car since thanksgiving. I decided to take it out to the firm holiday party and some ******* hit an ran in the Parkin lot.
I think (hard to tell) that rear bumper didn’t crack but the fiberglass rear quarter panel is definitely messed up.

Debating if I want to make an insurance claim or not. I have a $1k deductible for this so if it’s under $1500 I’d rather not Make a claim. LUCKILY they were my track wheels and not my street wheels. They got some nicks but I can live with that. I’m sure they’ll get plenty more.

As you suspect , it can be easily fixed --- unfortunately the cost is going to be about right where you think it is going to be. Even with no fault insurance, it would prolly be a losing proposition to turn it in as a claim, with you getting an out of pocket hose job..

Do you know who parked next to you? If there are parking lot security cameras recording the incident (and even of there aren't), maybe you can "negotiate" an off the books settlement.

Totally sucks to have something like this happen ...

VI,
That's the paradox of ownership. Do we drive them or not. I hesitate to drive mine to the bowery of the near South side of Dallas and Deep Ellum, but I won't be held hostage by what is - regardless of what seemingly inevitably might happen to our beloved Corvettes.

this is the second time in less than two years my c7s have been victims on hit and run. One was at brain dead brewery with my stingray. Now this.

I'm thinking much of that can be buffed out. Picture is not clear enough to assess whether damage occured into the primer though. If you are skilled in detailing you may be able to tackle this yourself with your rotary buffer and some compound.

Hopefully there were some security cameras in the area that captured the culprit???

unfortunately the rear bumper definitely needs repainting. The quarter is what I’m concerned about.

Looks like rubber transfer from the sidewall of a tire scrubbing along the panels. If so it may come off with a little Windex or something similar.

Bumper cover is probably okay. Fender may need some work and the bumper cover to fender dimension obviously needs adjustment, as I'm sure you saw also.

Many years ago I had something similar happen when a semi pulled over into my lane on the expressway, and once the rubber was cleaned off there was no damage! Heart rate did go up as I swerved onto the shoulder, however.

Good luck.

I had a very similar experience and the price tag was $1,900, Best of Luck with the fix.

I was thinking along the lines of $2 K. The wheel pic is not clear enough to determine if it just needs touch up paint or any structural damage done. From the pics it looks like mostly superficial damage. At least no structural damge done to the frame/suspension. At least that is what appears to me in these few pics. Comprehensive should cover.

I’ll never understand why people pay for insurance and then are afraid to use it.

OP....personally, I'd take it to get an independent repair estimate from a body shop you like/trust. This will give you an idea of the cost, in the end. Tell them the deductible scenario. If they feel they can make the numbers jive, then I'd turn it in, and send them the job. This gives you the info up front.

Personally, having been in the business for a long time, I'd turn it in for sure. You have wheel damage, lens damage, two panels, that have crash structure behind one, and adjacent panels that may need color blended. That estimate could easily push up into 3-5k, depending on the cost and severity to the wheel. The body shop could then fix the panels and you could live with the wheel, to absorb the deductible cost.

You can definitely come out good. Just gotta know how to talk to the insurance company, but only contact them after you go to a trusted/reputable shop that can work with you and get that info first. Lastly, keep these pics when you sell the car, to explain away the carfax.

Looks like the quarter needs some repair work.
always try and Park as far away as possible from other cars and it never fails... the biggest **** wagons in the parking lot will be right next to my vette when I return. Good luck with your repair

Man some people don't know how to drive. That was a major misjudgement on clearance. Very likely a drunken driver. I'd get it fixed up like new. Sorry for your aggravation.

this is why I don't have a big deductible....people always say I have a big deductible so my insurance is less then when it comes time to use it they don't wanna make a claim because the damage is less than or close to the deductible

so now you paid all that money to have lower rates and end up paying more in the end anyway...
