Can somebody explain to me the “yokel challenge”?!
What I mean is:
I’m taking a leisurely weekend drive, not being aggressive, and pull up to a stop sign or red light and some strangers pull up next to me and challenge me to race them to the next light.
Today, it was on a busy street so we would have to wait for the cars in front of us to clear out.
A half mile with curve left to next red light.
Very 5-0 neighborhood with a police station nearby.
White Toyota Tacoma with two 25-35yo yokels.
I get I drive a yellow C7Z with black trim and yellow calipers on ceramic brakes.
But I’m not wearing a “fast and the furious” hat or anything.
And 95% of the time it’s not even a worthy car... I saw a bright red MkV Viper ACR earlier and we just said “ nice car” to each other (those interactions I like)...
why would I risk a $95k msrp almost new car and the possibility of death and destruction?
Tacoma is what $30k msrp new ?!

You're driving a 'vette. It comes with the territory
(I believe it's a factory standard feature)

I'm sure that they were just yanking your chain and you took them too seriously. I would have played along and sarcastically informed them that my vette is super slow and no chance of me beating a Tacoma, but thanks for the offer. They would have laughed it off.
Heck, I had some joksters pull up next to me once while at a red light in my Z51 and they said, "hi, what year is your Camry?" I just played along and said it was a 2009. Because I answered them so seriously, they asked me again and called it a Camry. I repeated again seriously that it was a 2009. Basically, their little prank backfired because they didn't get rise out of me until the green light hit and a let them hear what headers and track mode sound like, which they won't get to hear from a Camry.

Just tell them next time this happens that you are part of a funeral procession and that you will take them up on their offer next time you see them.

I have had this happen twice while in my 17 Z06. I told the driver it was not worth a $1,500 fine, loss of license for a year and who knows what the insurance company wants for a road race ticket to race a car I know is no challenge to me. What are the odds? I got the finger both times!

That's correct Ken. I've had that happen a few times. I just smile, and tell them I only run title for title. That usually gets a laugh, and it's done.

It is what it is, Corvettes owners have been dealing with this phenomenon for 66 years.
Depending on model, Tacoma's MSRPs can go over $50K

Next time it happens you could just tell them you like their car and that your grandmother has one just like their's.

I don't know, new Tacoma has just under 300HP. On a road with a lot of potholes the Tacoma would probably take the C7 after it cracked/bent 3-4 wheels.

You must be confusing "Base Price" with ""MSRP".
Fortunately, I haven't had any wheel problems either however I believe we will both agree that plenty on this forum have.

No not confusing base with Msrp. I took a wild guess at first but then went in and built a ‘19 at msrp of $44k Trd pro. There aren’t any options to take up the price like a better engine. So it’s $44k for a 285hp truck. Ok so what?!

Has not happened to me. If it did, I'd smile and politely refuse saying "I'm afraid you'd beat me". Let him feel like a big man - what difference does it make in the end? Lose a license or worse lose control and kill somebody. Eventually that guy will wind up behind bars replaying his foolishness and his "what the "F was I thinking" decision.

OK So I just corrected your miss-information. Far too much of that on the Internet. See below, took about 2 minutes to build a '19 TRD Pro on the Toyota site starting at base then adding typical offered options, suddenly at $51,788.

this particular one in the OP was a several years old POS but it’s good to know if I’m ever in the market.
