Good on GM, Component Coverage Letter FYI
17 A8 GS
Component Coverage Letter
So I had questions a while back about my GS making a pump sound vicinity of my rear differential/transmission whenever I shut down. It occurs each time I shut down and was present since I bought it new. It sounds like a pump noise for about 30 seconds or so and then shuts off. I was concerned. I brought it into my local dealer/service provider to check it out. Tech, Service Manager and Regional Engineer each heard the noise it made but could not locate or determine what was causing the unidentified sound. Since there were no codes or signs of performance issues I went on my merry way and hoped this would not result in something bad. So far so good, no issues that I notice with the dif or trans since day one and hope for the best.
I received this letter in the mail this week unaware Chevrolet was still considering the issue, I thought it was closed. Regardless, I am extremely surprised and actually quite happy they stepped up and offered to cover this type of component warranty for my issue. So anything goes wrong with my differential or trans and/or components for another 6 years/100k miles, I'm covered and so is whoever buys my car within that time period.

"6 years??!!" Not a lot of faith there. I wouldn't be jumping up and down.
My 2006 Mercedes Benz' CDI sedan brake system is covered for 25 years, UNLIMITED miles.
.Thanks for the heads up on the GS, but that's rather lame IMO.....

If the sound continues for 30 seconds after shut-down and the dealership has a hoist (duh), it makes no sense that they can't find the source... period. That said, yes it is pretty nice (and surprising) that GM is going to take care of you. I hope if it ultimately "goes out" the bozos can find it then! All the best.

That's good for the OP, but he has previously reported an unusual "problem" they can't diagnose or repair.
It suggests that GM might be offering additional coverage for all the A8 cars at some point, but it hasn't happened yet.
