Default C7 battery tender

Any clever ideas out there to hook your battery tender up without the cord going through the trunk lid ? thanks

Nope. But if you want to leave it cracked open it's not an problem. Interior light turns off after a short time. No need to worry about it. Some of us just gently close the hatch on the cord. You can pre bend it with a stair step shape to fit the molding better. I routed mine in the corner most area. The cord will not be damaged.

Buy the 12 ft extension and crack your window an inch and go right out the window... 25 ft is $15. No bends, no crimping that may be caused by the rear deck.

Its under $12 on Amazon:

I've been using this method with my CTEK for a year now. No problems.

What’s the issue going through trunk? I always thought it was a great idea.

The only issue I have with the charging port in the trunk is that it makes using a car cover difficult. I like the idea of converting to a 25' cord. I could then run the cord and a microfiber cloth down the side of the car under the cover.

I dont like the way the cable pushes the trunk weatherstrip. I connect the tender to these clips and then to the underhood 12v connection on the fusebox and ground. Much easier to route cabling out from under the hood than the trunk.

I do the exact same thing, use a microfiber towel in the corner of the trunk and let the cord hang down the side of the car. No damage to the weather striping, no damage to the paint and the car cover goes over the car/chord just fine.

Maybe not clever, but, I have mine connected under the hood. Drape a polishing cloth over the bumper for the cord......dont close the hood, just set it down. For me its a much easier set up.

I let it hang out the trunk and close the trunk and have not had an issue. I do place a microfiber towel around the cord tho.

In my garage, the nearest outlet is too far away, neither end of the tender is long enough to do this. If I set the tender on the floor so the wires hang down the side of the car, the cord will not reach the outlet. I COULD use an extension cord, but it is not recommended. If I mount the tender on the wall (like it is now), the wires are not long enough to allow use of the car cover. The best solution for me would be longer wires from the tender body to the plug in the trunk.

I just close the trunk on it. Seems to be working fine.

me also.....with the trunk closed the charging wire still moves easily so it’s clearly not pinched tight. Some people think these cars are made of balsa wood. And cover still fits perfectly fine.

Best alternative if you park in a secured area, like a garage, IMO. If hatch is ajar the alarm will be disabled, of course.

When I use my GM C7 equivalent charger, I use and extension cord. With the low current draw it's a none issue. Just be sure to use a quality three wire extension cord. Get a 12/3 extension cord and you'll have no issue.

Since the max current out of the transformer is low, if I wanted to mount the unit on a wall, I'd just extend the wires coming from it by soldering in whatever length is needed- but that's me.

I use the trunk and put plastic bags like newspaper ons on the sides of the cord to push down the weather-stripping and not so much on the cord.
