Default How to Get That Mustang GT Sound

Every time I am driving and I here a nice loud muscle car rumble it turns out to be a Mustang GT. Any way to reproduce that sound on out Vettes? I have a Z51 with NNP and stock exhaust.

You can put a large cam in the vette, but cylinder firing order plays the largest role in the "mustang sound". I agree it's awesome sounding, but I can't hear a mustang when they are that far behind.

After adding headers/high flow cats to my Z51 w/NPP, I personally think it sounds way better than the stang's setup.

You can’t... It’s the firing order: 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2 (5.0); and the GT350 sounds even better. Can’t wait for the ‘20 GT500...

Hell yeah!!!!

On edit: After hearing the C7 with headers/high flow cats/NPP I don't want mine to sound like any of the stangs. Not even the GT350. The way its exhaust note rattles, it sounds like it has a bunch of spray can ***** bouncing around in it.

Unsure why it makes such a gorgeous sound, but on my '11 Mustang GT, I swapped the rather anemic stock exhaust for a GT350 cat back and IMO it makes pure exhaust music - pure American V8 sound that my Stingray jus' cain't match...
I just drove it on a 2500 mile Christmas road trip into cold winter weather and just loved the sound it made!

appreciate your question..two different cars yet similar in many respects ..the Corvette is refined aggression...the Mustang is raw aggression..love both cars and miss the sound of the Mustang but the Vette is just plain faster right off the lot. the 2018 and 2019 factory mustang exhaust is louder but most of the pre 18 had to make the exhaust loud just like we have to go aftermarket on the C7.

my last car was a 15 GT performance pack.sold it last April and was holding out for a GT 500 but got the gofast bug like everyone here and got a gently used 17 Z51 about 2 weeks ago.. I had 2 exhaust setups on my 15 GT :

  1. 40 series flowmaster, summit racing xpipe
  2. corsa extreme axle backs with quad tips

the factory mustang exhaust sucks and I did not get the sound I wanted until I started cutting up the exhaust, removing the resonator and adding an air intake. I went cheap on the flowmasters because they were loud and the Corsa s were expensive but I finally got them after seeing a video and they but really woke the car up.

check out both videos below one is my personal 3in flowmaster set up and the 2nd is the corsa I’m saving up to get for the C7 for the spring. Not doing headers or air intake yet but maybe a power adder at 20k.

and this is the one that convinced me to get Corsas for the Z51

and while I was looking could not resist this last clip

Yup, the V8 rumble is mainly a component of firing order...

I agree with you, even my wife mentioned the same. In this order from best sound first:
1. Our '11 Mustang GT 5.0, resonator removed, GT500 mufflers.
2. Our previous '14 Camaro ZL1 npp exhaust
3. Actual Stingray Z51 npp exhaust
