I just bought a transparent top for my Grand Sport, and unlike the last two that I had painted to match I'd like to vinyl wrap the spears so that I can peel it if I change the car out.
Rather than blindly guess, do any of you experts know the closest 3M 1080 color to Admiral Blue? It's looking like maybe 227 or 217?
THANKS!!!
(pic below is of one that I had painted to match the car)
OK, I bought some 217 color and it is close (but not quite). Going to buy the 227 and see how it looks compared to it. Will keep this thread updated in case anyone else comes across it.
WILL DO! Will probably wrap the spears with the 217 while I wait on the other color and see. I'll take some pictures tomorrow when it's light out and the car isn't filthy. I was lied to by the local weather folks today! HAHA
Today rained, sleeted, was cold, smelled bad, and was boring (and the Jets aren't in the playoffs). I took the rare slice of time and did the clear top wrap with the 217 3M color.
It isn't exact. There is too much "metal" in this wrap color and that makes it look slightly lighter in color. It's close, but I will likely replace it once I get a closer color. Better than nothing for now though!
Doesnt look too bad. I see your point about the flake difference. What’re next color?
THANKS bud, yeah everyone that has seen it so far said that I am likely the only one that will notice (but that's enough for me LOL). I think I will get a sample of the G378 (Blue raspberry) and see. This may be the closest though. Worth a shot!
Yeah, you can see the difference in the flakes between the factory paint and the wrap, but it still looks pretty good on the car.
Thanks Jack. It will eventually drive me nuts enough to change it, remove it, or paint it but for now it's pretty close. I'm thinking the next step will be to wrap the center of the 'halo' gloss black, and the edges with this blue to match it. That may distract just enough to make it work.
I wrapped my 96 LT4 clear roof a couple years back. Here is the key. The plastics of this type tend to gas when newer, and it would create bubbles. The guy who wrapped mine put on a 12x12 square first and told me to leave it in sun as much as possible for a week. If no bubbles he would do it. I had no bubbles so I did it in carbon fiber look wrap.
yeah thanks bud! I’ve had them gas before and that’s one of the nice things about 3M 1080 (you can fix it). I typically heat gun them a little just to get a jump on that, but yeah you’re right and we will see...
