Why all the rants about too much power?

I drive my SRT 392 year round, in Canada, every damn day. No issues.
I drove my Z06 on Christmas day, 32 F, 0 C with light snow flurries, no problems.

I’ve be on here since ‘14 and I’ve read maybe 3-4 people complained of selling their Z06 due to “just too much power.” Maybe your reading the same posts over and over again.
Most of the complaints are from those who don’t own a Z06, which is nonsensical. Nonetheless, I never thought for a second that my Z06 was over-powered.

I had to laugh at this as it's pretty perceptive and nearly spot on. Specifically if by bad luck one ends up in one of the thousands of political threads that get posted to this AUTO ENTHUSIAST forum daily.
The only thing you missed was to make it a quiz. If you match up to at least 3 out of 5 you may be an insufferable *******. If you match up with at least 4 out of 5 you are most definitely an insufferable *******. If you are a 5 out of 5 there is no help for you.....

You left out what some believe may be the most unfathomable lacking feature of the 60s era muscle car - a USB port! What a hardship that must have been!

From what I have seen most of the guys on this forum want more HP no matter which car they have. For me the Z06 is just right and I am glad I chose it.

Precisely, which is why many on here add CAI, TB, exhausts... even high flow air filters, in attempts to gain even a few extra ponies. I recently read a post where someone thought 650hp was too much power to go to Starbucks, but somehow 460hp is just right

When I was deciding between a GS and Z06 I treated the extra horsepower just like any other feature. Where I drive I can’t make full use of the LT1 yet alone the LT4, so I while it is cool to have 650hp, I felt it would be a waste of $14k extra over the GS for something I can’t make full use of. That said, if a GS and Z were the same price I would take the Z and just moderate my right foot.

Hahaha! It's a Charger. And also, you just never know how many of us could be lurking on this forum in disguise
I thought it was a nice gesture on V Vettes part. But I also understand this is an overwhelmingly testosterone-skewed forum. So I try not to take offense to most things I read. Or at least I bite my tongue till it bleeds

I try not to take offense and generally let the testosterone run it's course, but then again, I've got more miles on a Vette than 99% of the forum, so it's easy.

I think bragging is highly overrated, as far as I'm concerned, the only person I need to impress is me. I really don't care if anybody likes my ZO6, because I really do like it and that's all that matters to me. Do I think 650HP is too much? No I don't, but that doesn't mean that I'm not going to do any mods, I will but that's not to impress anyone else but me. Anybody that knows Corvettes knows how much HP the ZO6 has, I don't need or want to brag about it, I don't think most people care anyway.

This thread reminds me why I don't ever attend Corvette "club" events. I love the car, but I don't want to spend any time around too many of the owners.

Absolutely, from a practical standpoint, 455HP is complete overkill and practically unusable on the street. However, I'm a firm believer in buying whatever floats your boat and not judging others for their choices.
This propensity for certain Z06 owners to project jealously, feelings of inferiority, or being "poverty-stricken" on folks who made different choices is pure ignorance and a character flaw. You'd be surprised how many folks who could easily afford a Ferrari make similar more practical choices.
I simply have no desire to own a Z06 as my nearly daily driver, which my Z51 is, and it is far more attractive to my eyes.

Is your GS your daily driver? My guess is the wide-bodies are far more likely to be the garage queens, never driven in the rain, and mothballed in cold climates. I live in a cold winter climate and enjoy my car year-round averaging 5 days a week, using a 2nd set of AS3+ tires in winter.
I prefer the grand sport, until its raining. That said, rain has never deterred me from driving either.

Until I got my 2007 C6 that I subsequently traded on my current C7, I had never really owned a true high performance car before. These Corvettes are the first cars that I owned that have SO much power that it's actually VERY easy to kill yourself driving them as a direct result of not respecting that. So I quickly learned to. I don't think these cars have too much power, I think that's the reaction of people who want to flog a Z51 or Z06 like they may have their earlier lower performance sporty cars. You can't do that with a Corvette. That doesn't mean the cars have too much power, it means you are discovering the limits of your street honed driving skills. To truly get the skills required to contend with what you get in a high performance car like the Corvette you need track time. Which most of us don't have and may never get. So we respect the car's power. We don't whine about its having 'too much'.

Currently I don't own a C7, but in the future I would like to buy one. I wouldn't mind owning a Z06 but if a good running C7 2LT comes around then I'll get it. I want the extra HP because it's nice to have, but to be practical the 460 will do, but I know I'll want more!!!

First of all genius there is no wife or daughter or sons by my choice. I value my freedom way to much to put up with all that. I go where I want, when I want, with whom I want. I have more money that i can spend in a life time so taking advice from you is completely off the table! BTW when you read or hear the word "*****" what actually happens to you? Do any of you're limbs fall off? Does whatever money you have magically disappear? Has you're life significantly get degraded? I'f more than sure you can answer no to all these questions! Grow up already!
