Poof--all the sales are gone
Before Christmas I had been scanning car Guru to see what was available in a New Coupe, I thought there were some crazy deals out there,I just went back to my search and it seams all the prices went up. I was trying to make a deal on a New 2018 Grand Sport Carbon fiber and we were 3500 apart. I felt I was doing him a favor as who else would be purchasing last years model, Any ways I wonder what happens with these cars , How does a dealership get out of one of these cars , We are now definitely in winter as I understand the slowest time of the year for car sales ,Buy the time spring comes around again ever one will be thinking C8 , How will they ever get rid of them, Does GM offer them some kind of forgiveness,

You often get your best deals at the ends of these periods. For example, I bought my 2017 C7 at the very end of June, 2017, with a deal at Les Stanford Chevy that was in effect for only a week or so. Watch the dealer for sale forum here to find such deals.

I think it has something to due with taxes as well. I have heard that a dealer must account for every car on the lot and pay some kind of inventory tax. After the first of the year, all bets are off until next December.

Whether it's your budget or your brain that's the barrier, that car was over your head. Buy a used car you can afford fiscally and/or psychologically (sounds like the latter is the barrier here). I was in the retail and wholesale car biz 30 years ago, so I know this drill. Some buyers seem more focused on the 'deal' than the car. Please just buy a car and then enjoy it, if you actually even WANT a Corvette. Whether you pay $65K or $62K you're going to lose way more than that on depreciation over the first two years, but over the longer term Corvettes hold value better than most $70K cars.
For some guys it's all about the chase/hunt/deal. All I can tell you is nobody, and I mean NOBODY, (myself included) remembers the 'deal' they got on the car after they drive home. They're too busy enjoying their new car. Life is too short my friend. Live it.

The dealer most likely sold the car that you were negotiating on, imagine that

GM did have some great deals in December GM pricing and large rebates on many vehicles. I bought 4 of my last vehicles in the month of December. When dealer are try to finish out year strong and meet goals set for the year. Remember Corvette sales might be slow in northern states but truck and SUV sales are very strong. I bought a new left over 18 GMC Sierra SLT CC on December 8 and the dealership was very busy. I went in to order a 19 but couldn't pass on 18 deal. If a dealership has a in low demand vehicle they will just auction vehicle, dealer trade or sell to another dealer. Good luck on your hunt for your Corvette . Hunt is FUN but driving / owning one is a BLAST ! Dave
I did order my 17 GS last week you could order a 17 in April because I want a certain color combo and the interior package was being discontinued.

If the C8 is closer to $100K, I don't see C7 prices being affected at all.
Now, if the C8 is closer to $70K...that's a different story.

What some retail buyers fail to grasp is that if you're $3500 below the dealer on a $75K car already being discounted to some level that's considerably below original tissue (cost), the dealer may well pass because the car will bring more $ @ Mannheim (auction, that's where a lot of high end excess new cars are sold here in the Northeast USA). Your post implies you think you were close to a deal, I'd argue that you would have only been close if you were $1000 apart. $3500 is the Grand Canyon @ that point. I'm always amazed that retail buyers have this notion that these cars have $20K profit margins. Hardly.

If you are $3500 apart that could be a $3000 loss to the dealer. Why would they do that? 2018s are not bad property. There will be 3 times more used 2019s than 2018s on the market in the future.

Some dealers still have new 17s

I’m located in Virginia and I started my search locally. I realized some dealers here and close by still have new 17s unsold..I think once a dealer orders them they are stuck with them until they sell them and breaking even or wholesaling them has to affect future allocations from GM.
Really wanted new but thought about the depreciation and In any case I settled on a gently used ( 2k miles) 2017 partly because I didn’t want to take depreciation hit on a new 18 or 19.
Hang in there to get exactly what you want....winters not over for another 2 months and Presidents’ Day sales are around the corner.
