WOW, I’m surprised they waited so long to pass such a law. Do your best to keep the volume down when cops may be around and good luck.

The law addresses modified exhaust systems. If your C7 Z06 has a stock exhaust system, you are golden.

Another law changes the bi-annual smog test exemption of newer cars to 8 years old from 6 years old. But in the 7th and 8th years they assess a 'smog abatement fee' of $25.

I'm guessing it relates to how loud the exhaust is.

This showed up over on the Viper boards also. Over there the discussion has turned political so not a lot more to be said.
It is about loud exhaust. The law allows for stock mufflers to be legal. Manufacturers will now have to have new built vehicles to be in compliance or cannot be sold.
The change focus is on modified exhaust systems that create increased noise levels above stock (or new legal Db limit).
The law also has some language that would hit older vehicles (stock or not) that exceed the limit. Owner would have to bring them into compliance.

They didn't change the law about loud exhausts. All they did was made it a citation rather than a fix-it ticket. Previously you'd "repair" the problem and the fine would go away. Now the fine sticks no matter what you do.

THIS.

The herd mentality and mis-information on the Internet continues to amaze. Anyone will believe anything posted.

This thread went way off topic. LOL! Law is only for aftermarket exhausts. Also there is stealth mode that you can put it in if you ever encounter any issues.

What about the motorcycles? Are they getting down on them too for running straight pipes on Harley’s etc? Somehow, I bet not.

Once again, the off topic and political nonsense has been removed. Last chance to keep this thread on topic or it gets closed.

SEMA has a great bit that explains how this isn't really much of a change, though good luck convincing the car community.
