Default Flat bottom steering wheel on 2015 Stingray

Hi guys,

I just wanted to ask if you can fit a flat bottom steering wheel (as on the 2016+ models) to a 2015 Corvette Stingray 3LT which currently has the round style steering wheel - I've heard rumours there may be issues with whether the standard airbag is compatible?

Many thanks for your help!

Airbags are the same. Easy swap, lots on here have done it.

Awesome, thanks very much! Do you know if you can do it yourself or need a professional?

Cheers!

It is a very easy swap. I did it on my 15 a couple of years ago. The flat bottom wheel bolts right on and the air bag fits fine.

Very easy install, just make sure you have a good impact driver to break the steering wheel nut loose as it is on very tight. I used a kobolt 700lb impact driver as my 300lb desalt would not break it loose. Basically all you need to do is disconnect battery, pop out air bag using 2 screw drivers, unhook air bag wiring and all control wiring connectors, undo steering wheel nut and lift off. Under an hour to do it.

I had the dealer install mine, I have read posts that the bolt you have to remove can be a PIA to get loose.

I did it on my 2014, fit like a glove. I think it's a much sportier touch to the car!

I swapped in this custom wheel - only took me about 20 minutes. I used my original, stock airbag to ensure it works properly if I ever need it.

Not to hijack the post, but I also am looking to do this since I recently bought a 2015 stingray z51. I have already looked on trunk monkey but have found two different part numbers. Could anyone possibly post the correct number? The options I found have a price difference of $410 so something seems off. Both are listed as fitting a z51 with auto trans and both are wheels with the correct color stitching. The two I found are: $323 wheel option and $732 wheel option so it's kinda confusing that both say they will fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Really? I would never have known that was a requirement if you hadn't shared your deeply technical insight with us.

I did on my '15 with a Z06 flat bottom wheel. Easy to do. I posted a how-to on sanding out the Z06 emblem in the carbon fiber trim.

Wear a football helmet during the installation process just to be safe.

What wheel is this? Z06? Where can one find a good used one?

Good used custom steering wheels are hard to find. I have factory flat bottom wheel I took off my new Z06 with just 350 miles on it. $250.
