Be wary of Rev Match and Insurance monitors

I tried the Drivewise with AllState, it only took me a couple weeks to realize what a mistake that was! It dings you every time you go over 80 mph too. On the interstate, that happens often! I even tried pulling the module everytime I entered the interstate, well they see that too and send you a nasty gram! Bye Bye DriveWise!

I would never opt in to these insurance monitoring plans either. That being said I don’t understand what Rev Match would have to do with anything regarding their monitoring process.

After getting a $4,000/year insurance bill from Geico to insure three cars, I gave Liberty Mutual a try. Slightly better coverage for $1,800/year. Being greedy I then opted into the 3-month monitoring devices for two of the cars (the third one is older than OBDII). I figured the Vette was in its winter slumber and my wife does not drive much. I have a car provided by work so 98% of my driving was in that. I figured I would easily get close to the 30% discount. So one day I took the Vette out for some exercise. I drove very carefully to keep the monitor happy but did use Rev Match a number of times. When I checked my computer for the driving record, I had a bunch of "excessive acceleration" events recorded. It seems the device records all quick throttle inputs regardless of the fact that the computer made them. A call to Liberty did nothing to remove the "events" other than the advice to not use rev match.
Just a heads up for the Vette community. And think twice about the monitoring program. Leaving the privacy issues aside, the system is extremely sensitive. What we would all consider normal braking is often logged as excessive. If you had to commute in traffic, your discount would disappear in a week.

I'm about to enter in to a similar deal with one of the other brand lines that my Nationwide insurance agent can write for my vehicles. .
Here's the difference of what my agent verbally
quoted; the potential discount is permanent on what your 3 to 4 month OBD test period results in. Discount up to -40%.
I'm going to need to learn a little more about this.

Driving the OBD monitored vehicle between the hours of 12 Midnight and 5 a.m., and "hard braking" events count against your discount - with my carrier.
.I would/am only interested in getting the permanent discount going forward if I submit to the 3 to 4 month OBD, monitoring my vehicles.

Travelers as well
was the primary reason (catch them speeding, raise their rates, nice) Have not had any claims with Travelers but they came highly recommended by our agent, I shopped
around as well to compare; standard deductions for my '14 Vette, Wife's '13 Prius (home owners as well for bundle discount) and it's 139/month for the two cars here in Western
Washington State.

Indeed, don't sell your privacy for short change; we do that enough already online... Besides, why would you even drive a Corvette, if you'll need to drive within the confines of a Corolla : ))

2000 a year to be monitored, which at best would just keep me from getting the discount in the first place, and at worst get me dropped.... not worth it.
It's not like I drive crazy, but on the few times that I drive spirited enough, the monitoring device would ding me too much and I would save nothing.

I don't believe that having these monitors on your car has anything to do with saving you money. 
It has more to do with increasing the insurance company's profits, simple as that.

Of course, once enough number of people surrender their freedom, those who didn't will be charged a lot more, citing "rising risk" when your car is not equipped with these babysitters. I'd never put such a device to any of my cars, regardless of how I drive.
