Welcome to the forum, and the Corvette family. I can understand that this is quite frustrating, but don't let it get you down.Things like this can happen to any man made mechanical machine. Good luck, I hope it's back in your garage soon.

I just HOPE your service department isn't as wonky as most seem to be!!! All the best.

Safety Car
sorry
and, it's fair to feel some really good honest anger at that moment, you didn't even have time to contemplate buyer's remorse, so
understandable if you want to punch something/someone but once that's passed you can get down to finding out why and then
calmly dealing with your options. Good luck.

Burning Brakes
OP, I feel your pain. I factory ordered a ‘78 Trans Am in late 1977. It came in on a cold winter day, picked it up and while driving back to work (4-5 miles) I noticed the heater not working, temp gauge pegged. Had it towed back to dealer. They found a heater hose had come loose, coolant mostly gone. Fixed it, filled it, back to work I go. Got about go the same spot, not heat, temp gauge pegged. Towed back again, found thermostat had stuck shut. They replaced the thermostat, filled it, and I made it back to work. Never had any kind of engine failure after that, drove it well over 100K mikes doing sutocrosses 2-3 times and month, long trips, and the occasional drag races.
Ill bet your problem will be fixed soon (sorry to hear can’t get to it for a few days after just buying it though) and you’ll have many years of enjoyment.

Car is back home fully operational
I want to thank everyone for their support and ideas and welcomes to the forum. This morning the dealership started working on the car. The service manager had the auto tech start up the car as he listened. As it was moved forward a little you could hear the scraping cans bouncing around sound. The service manager called over the shop foreman and they followed the car as the tech drove it over to a lift so they could raise it up and see what was wrong. They raised it up and removed all the tires and examined everything and tested everything. Once it was up and the tires removed there was no more strange sound. They put everything back together and set it back on the ground and no noise at all. They drove it a little, no noise. They then called me for permission to take it for a spin because the millage was only 52 miles. I said they could go a few miles with it. Ten miles later still no noise and the car is running perfectly. Two things could have happened. One something got up in the wheel well and was causing it and ground up by the time they took off the tires or maybe something was not quite put together right and when they put everything back on they did it right and that got rid of the noise. Who knows. I came and got it and drove it 20 miles home and it is running great with no noise. All three of them heard the noise before putting it up on the rack. At least it is documented now if it happens again. So now my Corvette adventure begins.

Glad to hear it wasn't something big!!! Enjoy the car and welcome to Corvette ownership

Was the car sitting in the lot for awhile? I have had things like this happen before to me and it turned out to be a stuck emergency brake or maybe a caliper got hung up. It usually took some driving and or using the e brake a few times to free it up. The only other thing I could think of was maybe a loose wheel that was tightened properly after they removed the wheels. The good news is you have lots of warranty left. Enjoy your car and don't worry about it.

None of what we know so far explains the sound of air being released at the end of the first episode. There are only three possibilities since tires have been ruled out:. You need a source of pressure and a reservoir to get that sound. The cooling system, gas tank, and air conditioning are unlikely possibilities, leaving something loose in the exhaust as the likely explanation. It flaps around making weird noises, then lodges in a position to block the flow, making the sound of pressure being released.

Or the owner ran over something, like an aerosol can, which made its classic release of air sound and stayed caught in a wheel area before falling out. It would be ironic if the tire hit one of those aerosol cans of fix a flat.

Could be something like I had once. A nail got "thrown" into the mat around the tires and the head of the nail was rubbing against the tire. I immediately stopped and took a look. I was just glad the nail did not go into the tire and the nail did not go deeply enough into the mat to do any damage. Made a horrible noise if I went over even the slightest road bump.

Maybe not directly related...I had a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee that started making extreme grinding noises after being returned from a recall from the dealer. Had it flat bedded to another dealer (closer to home). Turns out dealer A moved a heat shield somehow (I think they had their lift arm on the heat shield instead of the frame). When the suspension was loaded just right, the heat shield would make contact with one of the drive shafts. As the drive shaft rotated...nasty metal grinding sound.
