Scratches in carbon fiber roof
A friend has scratches in the clear coat of his exposed carbon fiber roof and asked me to help him. I was wondering if there is an equivalent of rubbing compound to remove the scratches in this material I have an orbital buffer and I am experienced with paint correction, but was afraid to use those products on what looks like to be clear plastic. I would appreciate advice.

It’s exposed carbon fiber that is clear coated with a very expensive resin to prevent yellowing. Depending on how deep the scratches are they may buff out. But don’t burn through the clear coat.

Well they are clear coated, but not just like paint. Its a special clear coat to prevent yellowing or discoloration of the exposed carbon fiber, more like a resin to fill in the porous surface of the carbon fiber.

I've used Meguiar's Ultimate Compound on my exposed roof and hood several times. Not a problem to remove swirls, light scratches and other (water) spots. I have done it by hand.
