Why do people trade in on essentially the same car?

Safety Car
Ahh but the benefits
I agree (though I too have fallen victim to the lure of going from a 1LT to a 3LT when I had C6's) BUT it allowed a poor retired school teacher to buy his dream car used and depreciated (and very much appreciated)
with only 5K miles on it......

No idea what justifies turning in one C7 for another. I'm certainly good with my C7. Especially when I see some C6ers still dreaming about a C7.

To some money is not an issue and they just want something new, really a bunch of other reasons that I am sure makes sense to those who make these type of trades.

And some trade for a newer model to be rid of a problematic car. Say an early A8 that shudders, or has torque converter problems. Along with the early C7's that came with that damnable "warble" noise in the rear diff. that GM would never recognize as a problem. And maybe even something else that the dealer just can't seem to get right.
"Something else".........when someone gets in my vehicle, they say...."Gee, still has that new leather smell"....really?

I would not buy a newer model of the same car unless I was going from a base to a wide body or a base to a ZO6

I don't know about others but I am guilty of considering another C7. I have GS and have been looking at Z06's for some reason. My car is not a year old but I'm interested in the Z.... kinda silly I guess but I'd like to have one. I think Spring Mountain started it. I was in a group with 2 Z06's and they just walked away on the straightaways. Made me wish I had more horsepower....but I caught them in the corners

Some of us just like having new cars. Of all my cars, Corvettes are generally held the longest - an average of 4.5 model years. All our daily drivers get swapped out every 24-36 months.

It's not a waste of money if it's enjoyable to the person spending the money. I love getting a new car. I get a new C7 every two years. Some people gamble...some drink...some collect (fill in the blank)! Some of us are Caroholics!

I've seen it mentioned here several times.
Some folks when they buy a new C7,they underbuy the first time. They get in on a cheaper/less featured model and want more.
I've seen posts here where folks get a base, then they trade for a GS and then trade again for the Z.

Do you really think this human desire is relegated to just cars? This is human nature and it's in our DNA (maybe) to always want something different...never happy or satisfied. We think that getting something, some item whatever it may be will fulfill us. And it does...temporarily. Then when the 'new' wears off and the satisfaction, or the element to impress (either others or ourselves) is gone with the wind, we find ourselves searching for the next 'thing' to quench our need. Cars, homes, spouses, jobs, cloths, vacations, etc... You name it. It's a never ending cycle.

Why are you trying to rationalize an emotional decision?

I’ve got the answer
I have a 2015 Z convertible. There's not much in the current car I miss, except maybe Carplay and the speed of the center stack, etc.
I see others that had a 2015 have already traded up to 2017 and some again looking at 2019. What drives that when the cars are SO similar?
Since there's almost nothing about the current car that's very different, why do people absorb that depreciation just to have a newer model year? Maybe if you're running up a ton of mileage, but most are not...

- New car smell
- thrill of peeling off the wrapper just like when you get a gift
- thrill of the deal
- those ooohs and ahhhs when you pull up to any stoplight

I have owned 26 Corvettes and like buying a new one every 2-3 years. I am waiting to see if GM puts some big rebates on 19's then I am going to trade my car in for either a Grand Sport or a ZO6. My dealer has a couple in stock that I have my eye on.
