No dealer should have to receive a bulletin telling them not to use incorrect parts. The fact they get bulletins stating that fact (because the issue is so widespread) should be disconcerting to us all.

I'd argue it's more prudent financially to have a simple data base like the one I suggest in place than it is to have the system GM has in place now, so in that case, it's more due to stupidity than finances.

Nope, the bulletin says one filter can damage the engine, so there is only one correct filter that should be getting used.

You have no idea of the number of bullitins they get including for Silverado’s etc. As I recall they sell over 500,000 Silverado’s per year versus ~30,000 Vettes. Considering the Servive Manager has to worry about mechanics not showing up for work, hiring new ones etc etc sure he is going to read every bulletin that comes in from GM and remember the details!
I chalk up the bulletins as being education pieces for service/repair improvement. How are they going to stay competent at their profession if they let these critical communication pieces just get shrugged off. I get that it is overwhelming but that's not our fault. The majority of us are car people and understand that we might need to perform some due diligence on things, but not everyone understands things to that level and they really shouldn't have to since they are relying on the "experts" to perform the work to standard.

"JerryU:
Do you expect Service Managers to read every service bulletin?"
When it comes to my car? Yes.

Don't think you'all understand the scope of the issue.

Found this and listed two: 1st The 2014 Corvette and 2nd The 2 wheel drive Silverado with a 6.2 Lier engine.
There are similar lists for the each available engine and 4 wheel drive models! I could list a similar list for all car and truck models by engine!

I picked it up from a site that had it tabular as I show the 2014 Vette info. The forum took that and put it in a string! I fixed the Vette "stuff" but left the Silverado which is just as long. Many more lists for diffent models and engines!

Found this and listed two: 1st The 2014 Corvette and 2nd The 2 wheel drive Silverado with a 6.2 Lier engine.
There are similar lists for the each available engine and 4 wheel drive models! I could list a similar list for all car and truck models by engine!

True they do a good Corvette Tech. He has been very helpful.

That said, the tech does not do the oil change. In 14 the first two oil changes on my car were done wrong. Over filled both times. Both times I gave the service writer the bulletin explaining the correct fill and procedure. After the second time wrong I got in touch with the General Manager and Service manager, they made it right. Gave me to complementary changes after that for my have to come twice to have it done right, I live over 50 miles away. Never had another issue with an Oil change on the 14, four more were done. No issue with the first change on the 2018.

The Corvette tech has always been good, and knows what he is doing. Never an issue with him.

I didn't have a source for 2017's but doubt the number is a lot less. That source had the summary for all makes. They are similar! Most are no big deal! My September 2013 built C7 Z51 was an early build. Was back at the dealer twice in the 3 1/2 years I had it before it was sold! Once when GM said bring it in an have the "dif" oil level changed. I wanted as the newly trained C7 Tech let me come under the car while it was on the alignment, drive-on rack. It was fine and I found the place to install the skip shift elimination device! The second was when I had the software update for the seat belt recall issue. Great car, hope my 2017 Grand Sport is as good! (I do my own oil changes)

For those concerned about possible dealer oil changes, especially those with dry sumps, a method of being sure it's correctly done used by some is what I would use IF I didn't change my own.

First tell the Service Writer you want 9 quarts installed and be given the 10th. That will help two things, first that they will be using the Mobil 1 oil you request. In the discussion, ask and be confident they know what oil you expect and agree to provide it. That will also assure it's not overfilled.

Second, drive the car home and then follow the Owner's Manual of checking the oil level. It must be hot, >170 degrees, which it will be from the trip home. Then after 5 minutes of shutting the engine off (to allow oil to drain down from the tanks internal baffles) check the oil level. It's the level that is critical not some volume estimate. From my 5 year experience it will be about 1/4 quart above MIN and 3/4 quart below the MAX oil level.

BE SURE NOT TO WAIT MORE THAN 10 MINUTES AFTER SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF TO CHECK THE LEVEL. Although it states that in the Owner's Manual it des not say why. That would allow excess oil to drain back to the oil pan and you'll get a low oil reading! In fact I would guess many certified C7 Techs will not take the time to get the oil hot and perform that level check.

Then with a funnel, pour from the quart they gave you and check the level until it is where you would like it. Some of us do not fill to the MAX level. You will have to start the engine for a few minutes and wait the 5 minutes again. The oil will still be hot.

You should understand how to check the oil level anyway as it's something you should do periodically. However even I don't do it at every gas fill as suggested in the Owner's Manual- it's not needed. But especially during break-in, it should be checked.
